Badge, as he often does, cuts to the core.

If driving is a dogshit experience and quite expensive, people take good public transit.

And if driving is just annoying and not prohibitive, people drive.

I live a block from a train, work two blocks from a stop. But the scheduling is so-so at best, and the 11 minute drive with free parking is fine. Plus my end of day flexibility and ability to toss things in the trunk increases considerably.
That's where Chicago killed it. I could start work at that office anywhere from 6AM to 9AM and still have an express no matter the time I chose (mostly early).

I'd drive too if I were you.

I mean, it's a pretty huge security risk.
Oh yeah. I mean, you track it so you know who to fire or sue/discourage acts that lead to firings/suing.

both my children work from home and have never had those restrictions

but its not high tech so maybe thats the reason

Yeah, Tech companies are more aware of the risk-- especially companies like mine, that own other Tech security companies. :)

But that doesn't mean the risk is any less for a non-tech company.  If anything, it's greater, because non-tech companies are less likely to be tracking those moves, so they'd have absolutely no idea where a breach occurred, if one does.

We have a no external storage policy, but I ignore it.

Does anyone here use a cloud storage solution for offsite backup?

I have a bunch of data stored on a NAS system in a mirrored RAID-1 setup, as (being in data storage) I know that the rule is that you should never trust any data that you want to keep to be stored on a single device. But in the back of my mind I still keep worrying about fire, theft, electrical overstress, etc that could take it down. So I'm looking for offsite. Most of what I can see is <$10/month for unlimited storage.

Only restriction is that it *must* support Linux, as my home server that would be hosting the application to keep the NAS and the cloud storage synced is a Linux box, and I don't use Windows for basically anything if I can avoid it.

We're seeing some of this. We have what we call basic training.

Ukraine’s counteroffensive so far: steady gains, heavy losses | The Hill

It's hard for me to see a very positive outcome from all of this, just more of a WW One like scenario.

I'd rather the US and NATO not be involved in the proxy-war crap. Ukraine, to me, is not worth it.

It's a corrupt country that offers little to nothing to the West, except corruption opportunities and grain.

If the US and NATO really wanted to make an impact, it could have taken down Russia. Now it's too late for that.

Ukraine's offensive has barely started and has been limited to small scale probing and shaping.  It will be a couple months before the results can be judged.

Yeah, all while Russia is staging nukes in its suburb of Belarus.

This is not going to end well. We need to get out.

I fail to see any vital US Strategic interest in who controls Ukraine. Apart from that, while Russia's conventional military appears to be a bit of a paper tiger, they remain a nuclear power and I am adamantly opposed to risking nuclear war over something that simply is not important to the US.

Yeah I lost a RAIDED NAS system many years back, and moved over to cloud storage. Windows not a problem for me since I'm thoroughly in the MS world.

I'm using iDrive because it supports multiple systems/OS on a single account.  There's even some Linux support, but I don't know if it's exactly what you need.  Here's what CDNet said about Linux for iDrive:

There's also a Linux backup option, but it's meant for Linux servers. There is no desktop Linux storage client. Darn it! You can, however, use its web interface for manually uploading files.

Exactly.

When the USSR fell, I kinda said to myself, "wow, this is great".

Then I pondered the idea of instead of one corrupt country, now we have 25.

Yeah, that's great...

Got it. Thanks.

Yeah, I'm looking for something with a Linux desktop client.
