Back in the 80s/90s, were dudes selling speakers out of the back of a white van a thing in your area, too?
Pretty sure that was a thing everywhere... I didn't buy any. I bought my massive Cerwin Vega speakers via my employee discount as a teen working at Best Buy lol.

I remember a couple years later (mid-2000s???) people selling steaks out of the trunk of a car, which I also didn't buy.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives is clarifying that despite the recent legalization of cannabis in Minnesota, users of the substance cannot own guns. WCCO reports that a 1968 federal law remains in place until marijuana legalization is recognized nationally.

Firstly I had almost the exact issue a few months ago. It would run, and then trip. Run fine for 2-3 days, then trip. It was a bad breaker.

It could also be a short in the wire between the breaker and dryer.

I have several troubleshooting tools such as old school analog Simpson Ohm meters, fluke meters, and mega ohm meters. As a licensed water well and pump installer I deal with this stuff frequently.

I’m betting it’s either a weak breaker, or a short in the dryer. Because if it was a bad motor it would still run for a few seconds, or attempt to run because it’s a 30 amp circuit. Dryer motor is probably like 1/3 hp, even locked up the breaker should not trip immediately.

SEC going with 8-game schedule for 2024.
It's likely that they're doing this to extract more money from ESPN for that 9th game, with OU and Texas in tow.  They'll likely get it.

Our dryer went out a few weeks back, it would run, but no heat, and it wouldn't stop unless you opened the door.  Tech cam and said the computer board was bad, $420 for that puppy.  Washer/dryer set ten years old, my wife wanted new stacked units.

That got pricey, but the stacked configuration provided more usable room in our small laundry room.

I had checked the dryer vent tube for blockage, it was clear.

Yeah they're not going to give it to Disney for free.

Speaking of graduations, we've been seeing a LOT of graduation groups around here, that is, a group of nattily attired families of 5-6-7 looking about often for a place to eat.  One of them might still be in the gown.  They seem happy, which is a good thing of course.  I went to my HS graduation, it was pretty boring but everyone did.  I went to neither college graduation, it seemed pointless, I did go with family to see my sister graduate from UGA, and I saw daughter graduate from OSU.

I know I'm old and jaded about such things and usually consider any event in terms of whether it's gonna matter to all.  I'm happy that some families treat it as a very uplifting positive thing, and of course then the Real World sets in for most.

This is why I changed out all of the kitchen and bathroom circuits to 20 amp when we moved in here. This was not easy since they use Romex down here. No conduit to be found.

I gave my Greenlee fish tape and conduit bender to my electrician son. No use for those here.
Am easier fix that usually works is to just add an extra 15 Amp breaker and put the refrigerator on that one, alone. That is how we usually handle it because it doesn't involve replacing existing 14 GA wire with 12 GA. It also can be dangerous to swap because it is always possible that you'll miss a spot where someone (either original or later) tapped into the 15 Amp circuit for something and used 14 GA wire because it was a 15 Amp circuit so they could.

Someday I'm going to remodel my kitchen and when I do, I'll pretty much rewire EVERYTHING in 20 Amp with 12 GA wire.

My commencement happened the Friday night before finals week. I refused to get excited because I still had at least 3 finals yet to take, any one of which would have sunk me.

Engineers always seemed to draw into the last slot on finals week. I once took a final from 4-6 PM on Saturday, December 23. That stunk.

Due to lack of a suitable venue (Mariucci Arena is currently being gutted to replace the cooling plant under the ice), the U of M changed their commencements this spring from each college having a ceremony to one giant stadium commencement in which only PhD students would walk across the stage. Based on the amount of whining and gnashing of teeth from those affected, you would think that it was the biggest issue facing higher ed in Minnesota.

Since I brought it up, I'll explain my kitchen remodel project and see if any of you have ideas/advice I can use.

First, I should say, this will not be terribly soon because the previous owner finished the basement which makes it impossible for me to get to the breaker box to run new circuits.  Thus, project #1 is to remove the drywall ceiling in that part of the basement and replace it with a dropped ceiling so that I'll have removable panels and the ability to run wires to the box to add circuits as necessary.

Some of you know, I got married LATE in life and my wife is my age (she looks younger).  Anyway, we were both over 40 when we got married and we had both been living on our own for ~20 years.  Consequently, we had two of basically everything.  When we moved into our house we had about 12 boxes of stuff labeled "kitchen".  The first three boxes filled all of our kitchen cabinets and then we looked at each other and said "ok, now what?".

The eventual answer to that question is this:

  • Our kitchen isn't tiny but it isn't huge either and has VERY little cabinet/counter space.  They only put cabinets on two walls and left the other two, I think because they feared that cabinets on all four walls would make the space look too small.  The kitchen is about 12' x 14' so 168 sqft.  Adjacent to it there is a traditional dining room of equal size.  The wall between them is NOT a bearing wall so I can take it out.  That will give me a 24' x 14' or 336 sqft eat-in kitchen.
  • With the kitchen literally doubled in size, I'll be able to put cabinets on all walls without cramming the space.  The exceptions are that the existing dining room has an archway opening (full 12' width, but with a header) to the living room.  Also, at the opposite end of the dining room (back wall of our house) there is a window which will be replaced by a door out to our deck.  Other than those two things and space for appliances (stove and refrigerator) I'll have cabinets all around.
  • I also plan to build one of these.  I love the versatility of a movable island.  We'll be replacing cabinets anyway so I can buy the cabinets for the island at the same time so that they will match.  Mine, however, will be much more extensive than the one that Bob Vila built in that clip.  Mine will probably be 4' x 8' overall with cabinets underneath taking up a 28" by 76" space thus leaving 10" over overhang all the way around.  That will make this into a giant countertop.  I'll also wire it (plug on side coming from underneath) That way when we use it as a buffet, we'll have power for crock pots or whatever.  When we use it as a table for the kids we'll be able to charge devices.
