If you are at a stop light and a fire truck roars up behind you laying on the horn, what do you do?

1.  Wait for the light to turn green and obey the law.
2.  Move through the intersection to get out of the way (taking care nobody is crossing under their green.)

We live in a position where I get to witness Choice 1 fairly often, I can hear the horn from my office easily enough.
I’ll try for 2, but it’s so situation dependent.

I've found the emergency vehicle drivers are typically smart enough to move into the oncoming lane of traffic with sirens and horns blaring, to get past stuck traffic at an intersection.

Wow and you lived through the 70s & early 80s.  As much as I don't like the way the current economy is going right now, but with stagflation, oil shocks, poor monetary policies, incomptence of Carter presidency, Nixon's expansion of the nanny state, Ford's lame duck do nothing period by him or congress, etc. things were much worse.
Not even close you must have enough stashed away in your portfolio you don't feel the crunch. Good for you - that's not a slam but cars/carparts utilities for starters have sky rocketed These use to be regulated,ya know as reasonably as can be expected. There use to be laws about monoplies just look at the cable/internet/phone companies it's AT&T around here and 3-4 companies under their umbrella. I'm all for healthy profits and competition but it's hardly that any more .Recently last 6-7 yrs NG companies started this delivery charge at 35.00 a month fee,on gas lines that the public paid for in the 1st place. Paying over 400.00 annually because their friends in legislature got it passed - the system is so broke and corrupted The cost of living is outpacing the Blue collar midlle class income. And as the song says - "I'm frightened by those who don't see it"

Food and basic necessities seem to be more expensive than ever, even normalized for inflation, but I haven't seen any current statistics to back that up.  Just my own perception.

I'm fortunate to have enough resources to where I don't feel the bite, but there are many who are struggling with these costs right now.

How articulate and precise.

I made a decision to stop "cussing" a while back.  I figure if I can't make a point without using the "F" word every third word, I'm pretty incompetent.  It doesn't offend me, though in my view, it makes one's argument less impactful and more puerile.  As for religion, we all have our beliefs generally not based purely on logic, and thus is not really subject to argument.  I have zero desire to make light of another's religious beliefs (there could be an exception for the truly weird ones).  I don't think others should either, at least not here.  I don't think it possible to argue in print that one should or should not adhere to some major religion.  Usually, "we" adopt whatever religion was in proximity to our childhood and culture.  Often, a person rebels against that, as noted, and goes to the other extreme.  It's akin to the person who stopped smoking and started working out, they can get obnoxious, for no reason.

Anyway, in my view, the F and C words should not be written here.
I thought we were adults.
Why have words you can't say?  If they're words that convey meaning that you understand, then we should use them.
No one is saying "fuck" every third word.  Straw man.

I have no problems discussing politics as long as its an honest discussion and not a crap throwing contest

I really wish we would leave religion alone as its a very personal issue

It SHOULD be.
But then President Bush acknowledged praying about what to do (WTFFFFF?!?!).
Countless lawmakers base proposed legislation on their religions (ie - Christian) beliefs.
.
I 100% agree with your intent here, but it's demonstrably incorrect in reality.

I haven't allowed past Pres Bush or other countless lawmakers influence my beliefs

those that do need a rudder

probably for more than just religion and might not have the backbone to vote

It's not about influence, it's about our leaders purposely setting aside their reason and consulting an invisible man in the sky.
That is obviously a problem.  Doesn't matter which president or representatives they are, it's a problem.

You wouldn't be cool with the president consulting a magic 8 ball, would you?
