FF this is the worst economy in my lifetime not even close. Carter things were a little rough but the Dems and Reps then could find some middle ground. Now both have eviscerated the middle class
Wow and you lived through the 70s & early 80s.  As much as I don't like the way the current economy is going right now, but with stagflation, oil shocks, poor monetary policies, incomptence of Carter presidency, Nixon's expansion of the nanny state, Ford's lame duck do nothing period by him or congress, etc. things were much worse.

I can't speak to Ohio, but it's not even close to the worst in Iowa, Nebraska, & South Dakota
interest rates, unemployment, and inflation was much worse during Carter and his aftermath
not during my lifetime perhaps, but my parents and their parents tell some stories
late 50s / early 60s were no picnic

I've lived through two economic periods much worse than this one, personally, and statistically.  The double dip recession in Reagan's early years was very painful, stagflation, interest rates well over 12%, high unemployment, and then of course 2008-9.  I can believe the economy in certain areas is bad today, certain regions and industries, but not generally.  Where we're headed could indeed be bad of course.  The Fed acted too late IMHO and is going at it now to make up for lost time.

Another ranking ... I was idly curious about what "city-like living" involves, and if it's a good thing, why don't folks just live IN a city, where this would be inherent?  As usual, the folks who rank such things don't live in all these cities,  they rely on some semi-arbitrary set of metrics.  I'm sure Palo Alto is a nice place to live, city-like or not, it's also very expensive of course.  I'm surprised La Jolla didn't make it.  But basically, if you have $$$$$$$$$$$, you can enjoy a life just about anywhere.  Or not, no guarantees.

I was unaware of this outlined proposal, kudus to this Senator for wading in with an idea.

Vernon Hills and Burr Ridge do not belong on that list at all. Downers Grove, for sure.

Seems to me they named Vernon Hills when they meant Libertyville, and Hinsdale should be Burr Ridge.

Wilson gives FDR a run for his money
FDR wins that one. He had more time to Fleck things up.

Vernon Hills and Burr Ridge are not city living.

A huge "lifestyle mall" does not do that.

I thought I had some notion of what city living comprises, and I've been through Sewanee, GA a few times.  It's pretty upscale and they've done a nice job with their "downtown", but it's clearly suburbia.  Anyway ...
