Among the many mediots that were bad for America, he ended up worse than most. Intent on building up bad will and a divided country for attention and fame.

Good riddance.
Not sure about the good riddance part.  He has an enormous and loyal following.

He was quite harsh and brutal for my taste. But there were a couple of things you could count on him for:

- he attacked  divisiveness in the government and media relentlessly
- he attacked both parties without fear
- he asked a lot of questions that needed to be asked, when nobody else would.

That's the point of my proposal - during the most-watched time-slots, everyone is required to provide the boring news with no ads.
You can watch the PBS News Hour if you wish, I used to at times.  It's not bad at all.

To me, Carlson was nothing more than an entertainer (for some).  If you watch that video I posted it's clear he once claimed to have "principles" that would preclude him from doing what he did.  I think he was just sounding tough and when the $$$ came along, he went for it with both feet.  He had a very popular time slot, no doubt, and his firing "cost" Fox Corp $600 million on the street.

Now, many are corrupted by $$$ no doubt, he's far from singular, but I view him as a hypocrite anyway.  (I am as well, or was at one time.)

I think if one doesn't expose oneself to a variety of news sources, one will miss what may be important news items and perspectives.  But if you watch only con or lib news sources, life will be a lot simpler and clearer.

Pretty simple to see where the media is these days.

I have msn.com as my home page, because I have since I've had a home computer.

Anyway, there are no fewer than 9 stories bashing TC or celebrating his exit.

Not ONE story about Don Lemon.

I see stories about Lemon here and there, he wasn't the figure Carlson was of course.  I'm sure Fox will find a replacement, as  they did for O'Reilly.  I also figure to do this sort of show every night takes a LOT of staff who likely will remain.  I'm sure they prepare their pitch a few days ahead of time, the guy we see on camera just reads the prompter, perhaps with a bit of editorial influence (or not).

"OK, team, we're going to do a story lambasting the COVID vaccine, OK?  It will be popular with our viewers, so get cracking and cherry pick whatever you can find to hammer it and get the script going for Thursday."

Well I understand that to some degree.

Don Lemon was never influential.  He was perceived more as a cartoonish character. He was more of an anchor delivering his version of the news.

Love him or hate him- TC is influential.  He would choose the issues he would share on air and dive into them deeply.

His departure creates a potential seismic shift in the ratings as well as topics that might be front and center.

Again- not a fan of TC.  But if there was ever someone on air who didn’t give a shit what was popular with the viewers- it was him.  He would attack republicans vigorously all the time.

I personally view Carlson as a schill who did whatever his staff put in front of him, and they knew what would play well with the viewers, else he would not get those ratings.  It's all about ratings in my view.  If they needed to misrepresent to get ratings, so be it.

Obviously, I have a very low opinion of the merits of that show.

We might agree on having a low opinion of the show.  But I would opine that your 180 degrees wrong about staff putting stuff in front of him to appease viewers. In fact- it appears to be one of several reasons he is not there anymore.

He choose to air things management at Fox was uncomfortable with.  That was his calling card so to speak.

I suspect TC will end up somewhere, and probably soon. He's in demand. It's already out there that Newsmax has reached out.

Can they afford him?

Can they afford not to afford him?

I think it obvious that Carlson couldn't generate all this material on his own.  Now MAYBE he had full control and directed folks himself to prepare information for the stories.  I don't doubt he did some of this, they likely had staff meetings with him present in the AM.  They'd review the material for the night's show with him, and discuss what would be the next day etc.  They likely had 5-6 segments lined up ahead of time.

It's also possible he had relatively little influence in all of this, that I can't know.  And likely whatever influence he had grew over time, if he wished to exert it.  My guess is a lot of this stuff was developed by the producer and a few others and basically handed to Carlson to parrot on TV.

But to me, he is mostly a Figurehead who had a reading style a lot of folks liked.  (I could hardly stand to listen to him myself if someone posted a youtube of a segment.)

They'll find someone else about as good I think.  Fox management will likely give them stricter guidelines and editorial oversight.  The Smartmatic thing is still looming.

Boy- you are really stuck on this opinion- that TC had little to do with chosen topics and when/how to present them.  You keep repeating it.
you may be right- but his reputation and the evidence ( if you read about how he operated), points toward-he was his own person and had nearly total control of the topics and position on them.  Otherwise- he would still be there.

By every account, TC is a control freak and very difficult to work with as a result.

I'm honestly surprised he lasted as long as he did.

I thought he got too big for the room.

We have watched Jesse Watters a few times lately. He's like a TC-lite.

I remember folks claimed it was a huge change when TC replaced O'Reilly.  It wasn't, in my view, at all.  The staff remained, the process remained.  They'll find someone else and life will go on.  Viewers will flock back because the CORE tactic is to feed people what they want to hear.

That won't change.
