My main problem with the "news" is not so much that they don't report "facts", but that they select which "facts" to report, and which to headline and which to bury.  This is editorial.  I think if one watches say Fox News at 6 PM, you see "factual reportage" (generally), but if you watch CNN you see a very different fact set.

One of our TV channels has six "news" channels shown, you can readily toggle back and forth, and it's fascinating to watch at times (I will do it for a few minutes).  (Two channels are weather channels, and then you have Fox, CNN, MSNBC, and the BBC.  Without listening you can readily see which "stories" are reported, and the other channels generally will avoid them unless they are a major national story.  (The BBC is more globally oriented.)

I can tell you a "fact" easily enough to create a misapprehension of reality.  UGA almost lost to Mizzou last season and were lucky to beat another team by one point  ...( so they must be a bad team).
Oh, I'm confident we can roll back the partisan BS quite a bit.
Instead of what happened and who probably did it and likely why, we just stick to what happeend.
Kyiv was bombed yesterday, likely by Russian jets, probably in retaliation for Ukraine's counter-offensive in late Feb.....Biden is weak on this issue.....blah blah
VS
Kyiv was bombed yesterday.  More to come, once we know it for sure.  Might be an hour, might be a week.
.
You will not find that on any of these channels because these channels have 24 hours to fill.  20 seconds of reporting news, 59 min, 40 seconds of this kinda sorta might be because of this and could possibly maybe affect that.....it's THE problem.

I just saw that Tucker Carlson is out at Fox News. Not much detail yet, but his last show was this past Friday. Happened pretty fast.

He was highly rated with viewership, although we stopped watching him a few years ago.

Seemed like he got weird.
Right.
Because he was normal in the past.

Insiders say that’s not it- a number of other names at Fox were much more tied to that law suit and were thought much more likely to take the fall for it.

Carlson was definitely more openly, and privately critical of Fox Management than any one else.

He was perceived by some as untouchable given the incredible ratings success he continued to achieve at that critical 8pm hour.  No so called experts saw this coming.

Lemon on the other hand- the consensus is, what the hell took so long.

I don't.  It starts with reporting a story in the first place, or covering the news with a pillow.

And of course actual straight news is usually boring.  The Dow did this, Biden said that, there was a tornado in OK, the UN said climated change is getting worse, ...

We have a somewhat free market, eyeballs will go where it's most comforting.

Might want to check on that statement.

(Fox shares are dropping, and having TCT on air was worth $700 million/year for the network)

The settlement last week is a coincidence, and Carlson had much less to do with the suit than others on the network. See Hannity and Ingraham (and Bongino).

There are some indications that TC was removed due to other pending suits, claiming that his show was involved in many layers of harassment and that it was a toxic workplace. It will all come out.

Also the pending lawsuits against TC and Fox.

I doubt this alleviates any of the potential vulnerability to Smartmatic because what was said and done is water over the dike.

That's the point of my proposal - during the most-watched time-slots, everyone is required to provide the boring news with no ads.

I don't watch cable news that often. But from what I can tell, Tucker Carlson is one of the FEW that actually invites real life actual journalists on his show like Glenn Greenwald, Matt Taibi, and Aaron Mate.

He is one of the few if not the only mainstream tv news anchor that openly rails against the federal governments abuses of the law and attacks on the first amendment, one of the few if not the only that has dedicated prime time segments to demanding the end of the persecution of Julian Assange, one of the few if not the only that exposed all the lies of the US govt in terms of the Syrian war, one of the few if not the only that has called out the US govt for it's fanning the flames of potential nuclear war in Ukraine, and one of the few that openly called into question the damage control narrative of the mainstream media that Russia blew up it's own pipeline in Germany and one of the few that actually ran segments on Sy Hersh's bombshell article which reports that the US blew up the NordStream 2 pipeline. Sy Hersh is only inarguably the greatest investigative journalist in the history of the United States. He's only broken more bombshell stories than oh- anyone in the history of American journalism.

These tv news anchors aren't journalists...they are actors whose main function is to manufacture consent and spread propaganda and do narrative control for specific sets of the elites/ruling class. My guess is Tucker got himself into too much trouble for actually telling the truth from time to time.

He had by far the highest rated show on cable news, triple the ratings of basically every other news show on cable tv, and not to mention he had the highest ratings for the key demo 25-44 among all people in that age group- including registered democrats. Fox stock crashed $700 million since the announcement of his leaving. They just made a huge mistake imo. He was the biggest draw they had- now they'll be just like CNN/MSNBC and have basically no one watch their channel.

Among the many mediots that were bad for America, he ended up worse than most. Intent on building up bad will and a divided country for attention and fame.

Good riddance.
