Thats exactly right

If the 17th Amend was abolished it would mean the state gov would select the senators

there are more Red states the blue states so wala Republicans take the senate

the people would not have direct say

No, I get that part that it's not binding.  But why in the world would SF even feel obliged to pay reparations

for something they had no part of?
It's not specifically reparations for slavery, but for racism and policies that kept AAs "back" for decades, like red lining etc.  And I personally don't think they feel obliged to pay anything here, it's just for show (I think), same with the state.

I mused once about somehow paying reparations for all this to certain black folks and then ending all racial anythings by government, which would become race blind in all aspects.  I think many of the AA policies end up harming AAs longer term.  I've seen it in real time.

No Senators should be selected by the states not the "people" as it was at the beginning of the Republic.  Senators use to be accountable to the state's government and thus states' rights and interest were protected by the Senate while the people's rights and interest were under the House.  The 10th amendment exist in name only these days and this is mainly the result of the 17th amendment.
Exactly. The 10th means nothing anymore.

It's not the SCOTUS that concerns me.

It's the establishment Uniparty and unelected bureaucrats that scare me.

the main purpose of the senate is to ensure all states have an equal say in congress

that remains in place and is strengthened by a states citizens having direct say in that states representatives

Senators picked by a state party are unelected, and serve at the pleasure of for the most part entrenched single-party machines that regularly takes steps to insulate themselves and lock in their influence?

They would have more accountability to their home states, in my opinion.

Of course, reform at the state level is also needed. Term limits, for sure.

No, you didn't. Everyone would have more of a say - if they wanted to, of course.

As for me, I was very active with my former state rep in Illinois, and I'm working on the new one in Florida. So yes, I'd have more of a say.

Just as you would, if you had a relationship with your local rep.

That's a choice we all make. You either get involved, or you don't.

And, if you don't, stop bitching. Pretty simple, yes?
Badge, you know I respect you, but this reads as incredibly naive.

It basically says that instead of giving everyone a small bit of easily accessible influence on this process, we should remove that, and make the path to selecting senators run even more through the political class.

This waves off the idea that your rep answers to his party much, much more than you. It also seems to say that most people deserve less say, but you deserve more. And the reason that you deserve more is because you're in position to have this relationship. And I'm going to guess there are some uneven factors that go into who gets these kinds of relationships. Would these relationships exist if you didn't take a role in representing certain interests?

To phrase it another way, if I, with my remote job as a middle manager, moved into your neighborhood, would I be able to easily build that relationship? Or would I need to have some heft and influence behind me?

I think you'd be surprised at how much local reps value their constituents, regardless of party.

And how do you believe things are going presently? Mitch McConnell and Chuck Schumer pretty much run their junior Senators now. While I believe that the Republicans are more likely to buck McConnell, Schumer has a pretty tight leash on the Dem Senators by holding committee assignments and DNC funds from those that don't follow in lock step.

If the 17th were repealed, the States would at least have the option to pull a rouge Senator back and replace him.

And as Badge said, local reps value their constituents opinions much more so than US Reps do. I know I have my State Reps cell phone number in my phone and have called him on a few occasions to voice my opinion about legislation being debated.
