As for whether this is a partisan issue, if it's not, I'd expect to see liberals split on it, and conservatives as well.  To me, anything with a clear lib/con split is partisan.  How many conservatives think climate change is a serious issue?  Probably not many, and vice versa.  It shouldn't be partisan, but nearly everything is.

Ooo. Now we've hit on a subject I'm much more interested in than voter ID, good and bad DMVs and getting to them.

Let's put a 30-mile radius, there are nine places where I can get a license (the map you're looking at might be pretty generous and NC has different offices for licence plates, so it doubles the numbers).

Let's take where I am at the exact moment, a gentrifying neighborhood a semi-short drive from downtown. The closest DMV is an hour away via public transit. The next appointment I can get is Feb 21, and I'll have to take the only slot availible. The next option is 1:40 away and I can get an appointment on Feb 23. From what I've been told, those "appointments" are more suggestions. The first time I tried to go, I got there at 2:30 (I had an appointment that I misread) and the lady popped out and asked who all had been there since 7 am. Several people raised hands.

All told, if you don't own a car, you'll be lucky to not sink a full day into it, possibly two.

It's interesting because as an adult, I've mostly been in states that have shockingly good DMVs. Miss that. I have a good workaround here, but it involves taking advantage of a very flexible job and driving out into the country.
I filtered the map to only include ID services, FYI.

Illinois' DMV sucks. Florida's is fantastic.

And I know why one sucks and the other one doesn't.

In Illinois, you still have contact with 8 people, at least, and 8 lines. And that's just for an ID. In Florida, you sit down with ONE person and do it all - even the photo. When we went in May 2020, we did our driver's licenses and vehicle license plates in less than 30 minutes. ONE very nice person. Not 8 hacks looking like the walking dead.

I don't remember how Wisconsin was (30+ years ago).

As for the quality/efficiency of the DMV experience, that varies greatly by state/city/location.
it's a government entity

there's a great chance it's gonna suck balls, cause no one is accountable
similar to the voting process

It's not political. This should be a non-partisan issue.
I don't know that they can be separated.

It's the mechanism by which we assign political power. And tactics like this have been used for more than a century as a means to move around political power and often deny some a stake in that. And whichever way it falls, there's a belief that some side will gain more of an edge in that arena.

So it ends up being political.

We had a similar experience here, I was shocked, expecting it to take most of the day.  We were in and out, registered to vote as well.

This was at the downtown DMV office.  I think we took MARTA.

Some technical issues are nonpartisan, like changing the patent law.

Hmmm. I'm curious, did you use the DMV's map? Or Google?

Looking at the DMV, I think you get to about 55 miles to get to 25.

You and your ilk are retarded when it comes to understanding how the poor live.
"Just hop online".......don't have a computer
"they cost $10-25"......don't have $25 to spare
"open on weekends"......works on weekends
needed an ID to get your job......got my job 7 years ago, lost my ID 2 years ago
.
Yes, this is an excuse for everything.  And yes, it's true for many.
Until you make it a major holiday and provide transportation or online accessibility (free), then it's not easy or 'no problem' acquiring an ID.
Yes, that's ridiculous and yes, it's gross that it's true.

I'd guess pooooooor people, have better things to worry about than voting
Statistically, they don't vote.  Neither do young people.  Try to avoid typing shit that makes you look like a colossal ass hat.

Many pooooor people don't vote because they're trying to avoid homelessness.
Go tell them how that's a bad choice.

That's "in and around" to me. The entire metro is well-covered.

I believe you.  The more you help them, the more you get to judge them.

I'd assume Florida is better, though I wonder how much density factors in (I wonder that too with my past experiences)

Like I assume a major metro is more of a pain, just from a volume standpoint. Like, what would the gap be between Quincy Ill. and downtown Miami?
