I'm hoping for some type of scientific break through

Obviously wind and solar continue to improve - we need a quantum leap

I'm not sure building a better battery is enough, but batteries continue to improve

some other type of technology to produce electricity or remove carbon would be even better

I think money for more research is a better plan than subsidies for current technology or mandates

Removing CO2 from the air sounds, to me, like a real thermodynamic nightmare, entropy is not something we can work around.

Fusion would be nice of course, but appears to be well off in the future.

perhaps some type of improvement in nuclear that would be able to safely replace coal fired plants.

and could be built relatively quickly

The volcano meme is completely false.  I think just about any meme on climate change is false or very misleading.  They often are complete fabrications.  Well, if you put any faith in scientific publications and data that is.

This ice-covered Icelandic volcano may emit more carbon dioxide than all of the country's other volcanoes combined | Science | AAAS

The core problem really is "we" aren't doing much about CO2 buildup because we really can't with anything like current economic growth.  We can put a dent in it of course with a lot of spending, but it would be useful to face reality I think.  The US could pass all sorts of climate spending bills and we'd end up down the road in the same place, perhaps with a very small impact.

EVs and wind and solar aren't going to save us, the math is inexorable.
I agree that the meme is wrong, but I do also beleive that volcanos put out more CO2 in a matter of days than all of mankind does in years. Yet someone, we are going to stop CO2 from "polluting" the atomosphere?

Also, CO2 is NOT something we want to curtail in our atomosphere. Plant life on earth depends on an abundance of atomospheric CO2 to survive.

No, they don't, at all.  And yes we need some CO2 in the air, the planet would be quite a bit colder without it.

Are Volcanoes or Humans Harder on the Atmosphere? - Scientific American

According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the world’s volcanoes, both on land and undersea, generate about 200 million tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) annually, while our automotive and industrial activities cause some 24 billion tons of CO2 emissions every year worldwide. Despite the arguments to the contrary, the facts speak for themselves: Greenhouse gas emissions from volcanoes comprise less than one percent of those generated by today’s human endeavors.

Nuclear power plants could be built relatively quickly if is weren't imho overly regulated and the NIMBY people.

Nuke plans could perhaps help quite a bit, but they really are not practicable as solutions in this political climate.  E.g., it's not going to happen.

A good step would be to settle on one nuclear design and built every power reactor to that design for a decade or more.

Coal is the worst offender, if we could just replace most coal in the US, it would be nice overall, I think.

But, that means nuclear, basically, which of course means we'd have atomic bombs scattered about ready to explode.
But this isn't really the case at all is it?  I helped my son do a research paper one time comparing the deaths from nuclear energy compared to all other forms and the deaths caused from nuclear power, from the 50's until now doesn't even come close to the amount of deaths caused from burning FF.  Most deaths from FF are caused from the emissions (various disesaes brought on by particulates), mining for coal, etc etc.  Nuclear was shockingly low, even taking into consideration Chernobyl and Fukishima.

We do have a waste disposal problem, which can be solved by either going through with a selection site or turning the waste into more fuel like France does.

Any conversation about curbing GHG emissions should always involve nuclear.

I was being sarcastic about the bomb thing.  But plenty of people think that.  Nuclear is simply off the table in the US.  There are two more power reactors about to come on line and then ....

The SMRs MIGHT start a new trend.  Or not.  To do large scale nuclear we'd need to change minds and regulations.

I know some of the companies in my region have eyes set on nuclear. Not sure how it'll progress. One company had to get bailed out in what was deemed a bit of a boondoggle.

Uhh, okay, good luck finding x-number of identical sites, lol.
