Can we note that 2 pages back, I commented on the "best NCs tournament" post.....you know, FOOTBALL STUFF....and all anyone else cares to do is bitch about my whining.

I'd love nothing more than to focus on the football stuff here.  But then the chamber won't have its echo.

One of my personal friends has a very large ranch. Like 10,000 acres. He has been contacted by a large o&g company about storing carbon underground.

My company is pursuing something called circularity. Basically converting methane into Hydrogen.

The smart people I know carry the title of Fellow. Only 3-4 in a company of tens of thousands. They all tell me that it’s coming. Not zero emissions, because that is not possible. But very much reduced emissions, carbon credits, carbon capture. Things will cost more, but everybody has to play by the same rules.

It really doesn’t matter much at this point. If we 100% stopped emitting all man made GHG emissions it would take hundreds of years to start to see overall reductions. It will still get warmer and warmer during that time. That ship sailed decades ago. The only thing we can do is adapt, prepare for rising sea levels, slow our emissions, and hope some kind of technology will emerge that will allow us to start removing carbon and GHG from the atmosphere.

I don’t know what that will look like, because removing carbon takes massive amounts of energy.

I love how everything is my fault.

You boys are missing some good World T&F from Eugene, OR.   I like this more than the Olympics, because they actually show quite a bit.

If that many can move in, that many can move out.

If we can put that much carbon in the air, we can do the opposite, if it's a priority.
.
Sorry, I can't fall in with the plan of purposely causing a major problem and then shrugging that the fix costs too much.

The volcano meme is completely false.  I think just about any meme on climate change is false or very misleading.  They often are complete fabrications.  Well, if you put any faith in scientific publications and data that is.

This ice-covered Icelandic volcano may emit more carbon dioxide than all of the country's other volcanoes combined | Science | AAAS

The core problem really is "we" aren't doing much about CO2 buildup because we really can't with anything like current economic growth.  We can put a dent in it of course with a lot of spending, but it would be useful to face reality I think.  The US could pass all sorts of climate spending bills and we'd end up down the road in the same place, perhaps with a very small impact.

EVs and wind and solar aren't going to save us, the math is inexorable.

This is the US projection by the EIA through 2050 for electrical generation:

You can see that coal is still around, it is a heavy CO2 generator.  Natural gas declines slightly as a percentage, but is still around.    S&W grow a lot, but are still less than half of the equation, by 2050.  We're not anywhere close to net zero, and this doesn't cover transportation.  A lot of assumptions go into such models of course.

So, how about the rest of the world?  Are they setting it all on fire and the US is lagging?

These charts include transportation.  Look at the coal figure (China/India).  How is it realistic to expect that magically to be replaced with something else?  It won't be.  That's a lot of CO2 to be generated globally no matter what the US does.

Coal is the worst offender, if we could just replace most coal in the US, it would be nice overall, I think.

But, that means nuclear, basically, which of course means we'd have atomic bombs scattered about ready to explode.
