not saying it as a bad thing

Uses a sentence beginning with "I think".....ends the post with "just a fact."

The color pattern switched ca. 1990 because "red" is associated with communism and back then Democrats were coded red.  Now they are blue.

I knew it!  People I've brought this up with look at me like I'm crazy, but I distinctly remember Dems being red and Reps blue.

and all you had to do was google it to be vindicated

both parties claim these colors and I have not seen any derogatory meaning attached to them

I think its a non issue

and as CD says some folks cant be painted either one or maybe they are a combination of both which would make them independents possibly

anyway I guess some folks just have to see bad in everything when many times non is meant

The answer to the first question is no, but that's in part because almost no recall elections happen. Only 19 states even allow them. Per an article produced by Big Ten member Rutgers, only four have even faced recalls. Combine that with the fact only 17 elected governors have been elected POTUS, and it's all a somewhat narrow path.

I assume he has the ambition to try. He's always been an extremely ambitious one. I assume he'll try and get cut down somewhere in the process, a story that is for the most part mundane.
Scott Walker faced a recall here in Wisconsin, when he neutered the government pension thing with his budget repair bill. It was employee union driven recall. I do not have any idea why it's necessary to be in a union as a government employee. You pretty much have to commit murder to be fired in the first place.

10.pdf (wisconsin.gov)

He and Newsom are the only two governors to survive recall.

Walker was on the GOP primary ticket for the 2016 election, but bailed very early. He lost the governor election in 2018, to the worst governor Evers, as part of that blue wave.

Like Walker, Newsome has no chance in 2024. Pipe dream.

Probably a pipe dream. Though I think drawing the recall comparison is a bit of a stretch. Plenty of other reasons he'll have issues, which was also the case with Walker.

I definitely see identifying with a specific color associated with a specific party as a bad thing.  I see identity politics as a terribly damaging trend.

People now cheer for their "team" and hate on the other "team" as they would an NFL sports team.  It's stupid and it's dangerous.

Just my opinion, of course.

Anyway, headed back out to the lake for another day of wake surfing.  I really like it, much easier on the body than skiing or wakeboarding.  Although I still like to ski occasionally, and the kids like to wakeboard too.

well I guess we just dont agree on this subject

to me if a state is blue it just means it is over 50% democrat not sure why attaching a color is identity politics

both parties have platforms which state what they are for and if you find a party that believes the way you do then bingo you would vote for people in that party

thats why parties exist

its been this way for over 200 years

does this mean voters cant think for themselves -  not in my opinion

it just means a voter identifies with the beliefs of the party

can a voter pick someone outside the party to vote for sure it happens all the time

but if they vote republican they are considered red and if they democrat  they are blue

this is used mostly it show on a map or graph how people voted and really isnt meant to be derogatory

it should be noted that the media is the one driving color designation for a party

I think it's interesting because I think politics as part of identity has always been a thing, to a degree (and has oft been tied to class, creed, ethnicity and whatever else).

But I also agree, it seems like we're at a point where we often let politics become a really big part of our identity and really worldview. Which in many ways narrows perspective.

Yup, I think that's the biggest problem.

Both party's platforms have become so nationalized, you are voting for the same thing anywhere.  I love that people brought up Bernie's past history of opposition of gun control laws.  Guess what, he's been around long enough that a D from Vermont didn't look like a D from NYC, or a D from California.  Now, that's not the case.  It's toe the party line, or they'll vote you out.  Democrats are furious at Joe Manchin.  He's a moderate Democrat, who opposes certain climate restrictions that would hurt his constituents.  I'll give him credit, we need more like him.  He's what a Democrat from WV should look like.

In some quasi-ideal world where the parties worked together to compromise, voters would become apathetic (many would), they wouldn't get so incensed they'd write checks and volunteer and get out the vote etc.  So, politicians have no vested interest in compromise.  And your fans would of course criticize you for not getting everything you wanted.  They want us as incensed as possible because that is how they get support.

There are ample areas where compromise is possible, give and take, but it's only very rarely going to happen.
