Avoid calling another poster names.  Period.

Avoid posts relating to religion.

In this thread, politics are OK, which is an exception.  We've mostly handled it so far, that could change.

Total can of worms and will only hurt the little guy (station owner) and won't do jack to the big guys.
little guys won't get hurt if they're not allowed to charge 50 cents more than others
the question is asked, "what's your profit margin???"

if your answer is legit, it's all good
as for the oil companies that own the refineries.............  nationally there should be a helluva investigation before a gas tax holiday

same as the little guy... the question is asked about profit margin...... answer the question

None of the good religion provides is dependent upon the religion itself.
fine, then don't get your panties in a bunch
a group of folks with a set of beliefs wants to do some good for health care in the area....

don't look a gift horse in the mouth

why do you need to bring their beliefs into the conversation?

especially if you believe your own statement above
if it's not dependent - why mention it?

It's a can of worms because of all of that.

So, the guy at the interchange is charging $0.50 more per gallon than the guy a half mile down? He is alleged to be gouging. But, his rent is 5 times more than the other guy.

And the government has time to investigate all of this? Government gonna hire a bunch more bean counters to audit every gas station?

There is a reason that clown is referred to as "worst Governor Evers" by Wisconsinites.

I didn't.
I asked about a building and then I posted a meme that included no religious words.  THEN your post started a conversation about religion.

I find the notion oil companies are somehow generating excess profits NOW but they didn't a couple years ago interesting.  What changed?  They all went bad on us?

Or did the GLOBAL supply and demand situation get out of whack?  (Again).

Sure, oil company profits plunged during COVID for obvious reasons.  Now they are up.  It happens, it's a cycle.  But the reason gas prices are higher than "normal" relative to the price of oil is related to refinery capacity.

Gas should be priced around $4.30 based on the price of oil, roughly, in the US.  It's close to $5 because we can't refine enough to meet demand.  Demand SHOULD start to slack off and prices will trend down.

Demand has already started to decline. The price is too high and people are not driving as much, and when they do, the trips are carefully planned.

Everyone we know, including us, is doing this.

Russia's ruble hit strongest level in 7 years despite sanctions (cnbc.com)
Russia's ruble hit strongest level in 7 years despite sanctions (cnbc.com)

“Ruble strength is linked to a surplus in the overall balance of payments, which is much more driven by exogenous factors linked to sanctions, commodity prices and policy measures than by longer term underlying macroeconomic trends and fundamentals,” said Themos Fiotakis, head of FX research at Barclays.
Russia’s Ministry of Economy said in mid-May that it expects unemployment to hit nearly 7% this year, and that a return to 2021 levels is unlikely until 2025 at the earliest.
Since Russia’s war in Ukraine began, thousands of international companies have exited Russia, leaving huge numbers of unemployed Russians in their wake. Foreign investment has taken a massive hit, and poverty nearly doubled in just the first five weeks of the war alone, according to Russia’s federal statistics agency Rosstat.
“The Russian ruble is no longer an indicator for the health of the economy,” Hess said. “While the ruble has surged thanks to the Kremlin’s interference, its inattention to Russian’s well-being continues. Even Russia’s own statistics agency, famous for massaging numbers to meet the Kremlin’s goals, acknowledged that the number of Russians living in poverty rose from 12 [million] to 21 million people in Q1 2022.”
As for whether the ruble’s strength can be sustained, Fiotakis said, “It is very uncertain and depends on how the geopolitics evolve and policy adjusts.”
