the S&P is down significantly from the all time high around the first of the year

it's about where is was back in march of 2021 when it was on it's way up

I'm glad I haven't been pulling money out since the first of the year
While Im not suggesting anyone should pull out of the market assuming they have sound investments I do think folks should not jump in right now either

we have not seen the worst yet so just hunker down have another beer and wait it out

I think we are in for a world of hurt.

ANYWAY

We went to our local haunt yesterday afternoon to catch a band we really like. Smokin' Aces.

Got a burger. $15.95.

When we moved here in 2020, that same burger was $9.95.

I fear stagflation about as much as anything likely.  I lived through it 1980-1 when I had my first real job.  I was lucky, some of my fellow students got jobs with oil companies in 1980 and got laid off.  And it seemed we would be stuck with it for ever really.

I don't know how we miss a rather deep long recession here, and how can the Fed respond if it happens?

This recession to be didnt just happen

Its being carefully planned

I only hope we can get to the midterms before too much damage is done

I think the Fed has much more to do with our economy than politicians, with occasional exceptions.

Congress has passed only a handful of laws so far that would impact the economy very much, two that I can recall.  Changing Congress won't really do much.

The midterms will stop Biden from doing a lot more damage and get Pelosi out of Dodge

But youre right we will need a Rep Pres to turn this thing around

and BTW just how many "handful" does it take

obviously not many

Its not only what laws have been passed its also how various agencies go about their business under direction from the top

I don't think changing Congress will change much of anything.  Both relevant bills passed with significant bipartisan agreement.

I can't think what else Congress has done that would be damaging to the economy, and those two bills above are just a part of the landscape anyway.

I think the Fed was at fault, more than anything Congress has done.  The Fed has enormous influence over our economy, largely unnoticed in all the political finger pointings.

Those two bills Congress passed probably has had some effect, especially the first one which was unneeded stimulus.  The next Congress may have to do something similar no matter who holds the reins.

It's more convenient of course just to blame the mean Dems and/or Reps.

The gas shortage was caused by Biden's actions and foreign policy ineptness

This shortage has resulted in higher prices at the grocery store which drives inflation

This was all done to drive the green agenda

Higher fuel prices means more EVs sold

This has actually been admitted to several times

This insane approach to Ukraine also affects inflation

Now there is serious talk about paying off student loans

The Reps will solve the fuel shortage thus lowering inflation

I could go on and on but you dont seem to comprehend what is actually happening

I don't see how any of that resulted from the actions of Congress.  Ergo, changing Congress won't change any of that.
