On Musk:  it's not that he's a genius or a deity or a jackwagon, it's that he works long and hard.  He's an able-minded guy who works long and hard on big problems and big ideas.

The world benefits from guys like that.
I think genius is a fair label for that guy. The guy has completely revolutionized banking/payments via internet (PayPal), space travel (SpaceX), energy (solar & storage), autonomous driving (Tesla), and electric vehicles (Tesla).

The guy does not get ENOUGH credit for what he's accomplished. He isn't some hack like Bill Gates who stole someone else's ideas and IP and used cut-throat business tactics to monopolize and crush his competition. He isn't some dweeb like Bezos whose entire big idea was.. "hey let's sell stuff online and ship it to people's homes....and destroy retail in the process!" WHOA! BIG IDEA! What a game changer! Let's make Americans more f**ing fat and lazy than they already are and unable to leave their homes- and let them sit on their fat f**king asses even more and not have to leave the house just to have more junk and bullsh*t they don't really need or even really want shipped to their door steps. HOW GROUNDBREAKING AND CUTTING EDGE!

Musk has fundamentally changed the world in real and important ways- and many of those changes are still in their infancy. And they would not have happened without him or his brain power.

PayPal literally started online banking/payments- which obviously has revolutionized the world. Only four entities in world history have ever achieved human spaceflights. USSR/Russia, China, the United States......and SpaceX. SpaceX has revolutionized and continues to revolutionize space flight and exploration by dramatically reducing the cost per kg of launching rockets into space- something like 97% cheaper via the reusable rockets which can take off and then land successfully in order to be reused. Insane. No private space exploration entity is even remotely close. Bezos' and Branson's operations are a f***king pathetic JOKE compared to SpaceX.

Then there's Tesla- which has a GIGANTIC lead on the field in terms of autonomous driving- they have over 3.5 billion real world miles of autonomous driving data- no competitor is even f**ing a little bit close. Vast majority of their competitors "miles" are bullsh*t worthless simulations. On top of that- not to mention- when it comes to computing power- none of Tesla's competitors have self-driving silicon chips anywhere remotely close to advanced as the ones Tesla has been building themselves. Oh and then let's talk about electric vehicles themselves....which would not remotely be anywhere near as close to where they are without him and Tesla. Tesla now manufactures over 1 million EV's a year- and it's an American automotive company which started from scratch and succeeded- this hasn't been done in oh....over a hundred plus years.

The man is just not from this planet. Most iconic African-American ever. For sure.

This is about as deep as one side gets.  I got 2 things here.  Connect them.  Boom!
You used to not embarrass yourself here.  Now it's gotten to be pretty common.

Yeah, some of his ideas have apparently come to naught, but some have.  The roofing tiles that cost the same as a roof was one example.

There are some folks in history I really admire, but they all had "foibles".  Robert Burns Woodward was a real mensch, as was Ruchard Feynman, in the science fields, for Americans.  Feynman's lectures are on Utube and are brilliant.
the roofing tiles are real. you can order them. I put them on a home. They take forever to get and cost a f**kload, but you can absolutely get them.

Musk is doing like a million different things all at once- and all of them are basically brand new and never been done before. He over promises- but almost always delivers- even if the timeline isn't quite what he says it will be.

Who was VPOTUS in 2014, during Putin's last invasion?

Who is POTUS in 2022, during the current invasion?

The guy who is compromised in Ukraine, that's who. It's sad that I had to connect those two dots for you.

I don't agree with the high level of adulation Musk gets from some.  I don't view him negatively, I just personally don't put him on some pedestal with bold font.  The autonomous driving thing is coming, rather quickly, and a lot of players are in the game with systems that have pluses and minuses of course.

Tesla Owner Tries Cadillac Super Cruise, Is It Better Than Autopilot? (motor1.com)

And yes, I know Super Cruise relies on mapping.

The success of larger companies relies on a number of unnamed employees being creative and working effectively.  The CEO may get notoriety and notice, but he or she is reliant on a lot of folks underneath who don't.  But each person can of course have differing opinions, it's fine.

In other news, the superb weather of yesterday is now pouring rain, which I guess is a needed thing.  I stepped out with my camera and my neighbor's lens to take some photos and discovered too late the battery was dead.  Duh.

This is a tiny "mini-park" being built near us, I think it will be nice when finished.  It's not really a park, more of a widened sidewalk with a lot of trees and changed street.

This spot gets a new "work of art" every few months, I use the term loosely:

The lens is a 14-24 mm "fisheye" that isn't quite a fisheye as I think of it.  There is slight curvature at 14 mm, less than I expected.  It was fun shooting with it, it's a Nikkor lens of my neighbor the retired physics dude.  The two towers are condos near us.  We never looked at any there, the decks are more ornamental than usable.

The promise, which I never believed, is these would cost the same as a regular roof, which is plenty expensive as it is.

I was interested in the Boring Company's proposals, but perhaps there too there is skepticism about viability.

I rather hope this somehow works out to provide cheaper transit options.  We had a long tunnel here drilled to fill an old granite quarry with water for emergency use.  It used a standard drilling gadget.

Musk wanted to build tunnels between ORD and downtown Chicago. That would have been great, but the project got caught up in The Chicago Way and is now dead.

So.. Celebrity. We took a flier when we booked this, and it's only 4 nights.

That's the good part - the only 4 nights. We'll not be using Celebrity in the future. It's all bait and switch with these people. You pay for everything, and even still, with the premium package, they run out or never had stuff you want - like Tito's and such.

How the hell do you run out of Tito's on DAY TWO out of 4 days? How do you run out of Kendall Jackson Chardonnay on DAY TWO out of 4 days? Today is a sea day, so no stocking happening now.

Back to Azamara, Oceana and Viking for this family.
