I asked a director once why we had this training.  He told me he had $X in his budget for it and had to do it, he asked his admin to find some outside outfit to hire and do the training.  It wasn't vetted at all by anyone, and it usually was garbage.  I think I can say it always was garbage but some was worse than others.

The things were "mandatory", but I stopped going and nothing ever happened.  I didn't go to any of this sort of things for my last 10+ years.  I got into a bit of trouble for one of them I kept skipping on when the VP's admin called me and gave me a choice of attending in September or December.  It was a full week off site crap.  I told her December and she signed me up, motel reservations and all.

I retired that October.

We have to do it to comply with Illinois law.

I'd do it anyway, because it's required to renew my P.E. and P.L.S. licenses.

We have annual ethics and compliance training, and now after BLM, we also have annual diversity training.  It's fine, nothing controversial unless you're actually someone that believes people of another gender, race, ethnicity, color, creed, or orientation, are automatically inferior to you because of that specific difference.

speaking of BLM....there might not be a bigger sham organization out there.

The Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation has received something like $90 million in donations since it's foundation- and it was just revealed that one of the founders has been living in a 7,400 sq ft mansion that the foundation bought in secret in 2020 for $6 million in LA.

There are all kinds of stories like this about misappropriations of money- basically fraud and embezzlement- from the founder and higher ups. The families of people like George Floyd and other martyrs of that movement have spoken out against them as well. They use these families and tragedies to generate income (donations) and give the families and victims basically nothing.

Basically anyone who started an organization with that in the name was an in-over-their-head idealist or a grifter, with the latter camp being larger. If this, there is little doubt.

(People’s ability to grift off the topic of the moment is something to behold)

100%. There was even a case of a guy named Sir Major Page- who was a co-founder of a BLM foundation based in Atlanta with BLM in the name- who wound up getting arrested by the FBI for wire fraud and money laundering. I want to say he got caught stealing over $250k from that organization.

We don't need no education
We don't need no thought control
No dark sarcasm in the classroom
Teachers, leave them kids alone
Hey, teachers, leave those kids alone

My favorite band. ;) But not a song I really cared for. Probably because it was played too much.

😂😂😂😂.  How would you like me to show you the books that are being taught in elementary school which teach you that “white children sold their souls to the devil”.
bullshit.
Please do. Show us.

You realize don’t you that Governor DeSantis did not start or offer this legislation. I followed it closely since it began and it began as parents being extremely vocal about what they heard their kids were learning in school so they went to their local legislators who wrote the legislation and Governor DeSantis signed it. That’s not anecdotal that’s real life. It’s called the government actually working to solve the problems that the people feel are their problems
So as long as they push the button enough times and rile up enough dogs with their dog whistle to complain, they can pass laws about it?  I agree.

The CRT outrage is a joke.
Honestly, as a teacher, there's no need to teach CRT overtly.  You teach about a situation at a certain time, you cover that war, you cover this topic over here, etc.....and CRT is when the students connect the dots.  It doesn't require an agenda at all.
You teach them about slavery.
You teach them about all the stuff before it and after it.
You teach them about the Civil War (and before and after).
You teach them about the Civil Rights movement and before and after.

To exit a year of learning with the understanding that black people are screwed over and over at every turn is plain as day.  No one needs an ulterior motive to teach it.  No one needs to be a part of the BLM movement.  No one needs to teach anything that isn't already in their state standards.

This is such an obvious bullshit "outraged Karen" topic that it's pathetic.

As for the 1619 project, I think it's probably attempting to overcorrect for the years the above things weren't taught.  I look at it the same as a world map that has the Pacific Ocean in the center, with the Americas on the right.  I prefer that map, as it pertains to hominid evolution and the spread first of Homo Erectus and then Homo Sapiens.  But for some people to insist on using that map as the default isn't an outrage whether you like it or not.

Reviewing our country's history from the African-American perspective is interesting and likely beneficial for many.  The sudden leap that I see everyone seem to mention from a "reframing" to "white kids are told they're racist today" is nuts.  If that is a central tenet, then it's wrong and absurd.

Perhaps the point is actually that racism is so inherent and engrained in our society that the very people who are outraged by CRT or the 1619 project are blind to what is fueling their rage?  Maybe?

Everyone I know who is in education on both sides of the political spectrum look at the CRT outrage either laugh or are dumbfounded.  It's fake news, even if a small, but loud contingent of Florida parents say otherwise.

Democrats might have bad ideas, but at least their leaders are genuine.  Republicans are being trolled by gaslighters.  I really am afraid it's true.

CRT is not about teaching about historical events

They won't let me give blood anymore. The burnt orange color scares the hell out of the doctors.

But it is - because it's all connected.  If black people were never enslaved here, their current standing would be much better.  Is that not a given?

this one did as well.

I did click on it............

https://www.floridatoday.com/story/opinion/2022/03/25/dont-let-select-few-adults-decide-what-children-may-read-opinion/7159670001/

These are all things that people come in contact with in day-to-day life. They are the issues that kids, teens, and young adults are already discussing, and banning books will not keep those conversations from happening. Many of these are issues that they’re going to face eventually, in real life. Why do we need to shelter them unnecessarily?

Taking away books is taking away knowledge.

You’d better be careful with what you let kids read, because one day they might end up thinking for themselves.
