Why pass a law if it's not needed?
What I meant was it shouldn't be needed. But, due to a lack of common sense among so many, it was passed.

Perhaps I was not clear enough.

The border and its security is a distraction from the real problem.  The legal immigration system is broken.  But working towards fixing that isn't a 'gotcha' sound bite for whichever side you're on.

It's sad.
No, the secrutiy at the border needs to happen before the immigration system is fixed. Without a secure border, there will be no need for an immigration system as people will (and are) just walking across the border as they please. The Border Patrol is so busy processing those that happen to turn themselves in that they don't have time for border enforcement making them nothing but a concierge service.

I think it's true too - but the way it's being taught is not appropriate. The way it is being taught in many places is not good.
Critical race theory isn't being taught anywhere outside of law school.

😂😂😂😂.   How would you like me to show you the books that are being taught in elementary school which teach you that “white children sold their souls to the devil”.
bullshit.

Can anyone offer a succinct nonpartisan definition of CRT and how it differs from say mainstream thinking, if it does?
CRT is based on the 1619 project that was written by Nicole Hannah-Jones for the New York Times.

Quote
The 1619 Project is a long-form journalism endeavor developed by Nikole Hannah-Jones, writers from The New York Times, and The New York Times Magazine which "aims to reframe the country's history by placing the consequences of slavery and the contributions of Black Americans at the very center of the United States' national narrative.

The basic tenets of the 1619 project was that America is an inherently racist nation and that white people are born racist with no ability to change.

Where would you read what someone said if they didn't report it?  It's really most of what gets reported.  It's easy to do, and they can pick and choose what they report to get viewers to click.
When other outlets report the same story.

As I noted, I was "taught" this sort of thing in the 90s.  Of course I was an adult.

It's possible all this is over blown.  It's also possible it's a problem in certain areas, maybe with only a few bad teachers.  It's also possible these laws really won't do anything useful and are meant as political ploys on both sides.

We don't need no education
We don't need no thought control
No dark sarcasm in the classroom
Teachers, leave them kids alone

My general notion is that politicians stir up fake problems they can then "solve" with unenforceable laws and get their based stirred up.  I don't mean this is always the case, but I see it happen quite often.  Then their political opponents do the same in reverse.

Heaven forbid they should actually take on real problems and find compromise solutions.

My friend, this is simply not the case.

But it does point to the rather scrambled messaging around it as a political football. At this point, “CRT” encompasses most things either diversity or race related that can trigger some folks.

It’s quite effective, really.

The 1619 Project • Critical Race Training in Education

The main focus of CriticalRace.org is Critical Race Theory (CRT) and its applications in higher education, as this is where the ideology was first developed and where many individuals are trained. While CRT has been around for a few decades, it really has gained prominence since the rise of the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement, serving as an intellectual underpinning to grant the movement a perception of legitimacy as a civil rights movement. The 1619 Project attempts to bring all these forces together to reimagine and revise the historical narrative of America. The central premise is that America was not founded in 1776, or in the early colonies, or when the Constitution was ratified. According to this new interpretation, the functional founding of America occurred when the first enslaved Africans arrived on the North American continent. Further, the authors claim, the colonists fought the Revolutionary War primarily to protect the slave trade. First published in August 2019 by New York Times Magazinethe 1619 Project “aims to reframe the country’s history by placing the consequences of slavery and the contributions of Black Americans at the very center of the United States’ national narrative.” Activists have proposed the 1619 Project as history curriculum in elementary, secondary, and higher education.

In response, a growing number of historians, scholars, and critics have written about some of the logical fallacies, false equivalencies, and historical errors in the 1619 Project.

I had to take a diversity training course last week. I thought it was fine. Nobody told me I was bad because I'm white. Had they did, I'd have shut it off and walked away.

Scored 98% on the test. Missed one question (I think I was correct, however).
