100%. And they ALWAYS make it bigger and more bloated. Constantly adding new agencies and departments (DHS, TSA, ICE) or bloating, expanding, and bastardizing existing ones (Capitol Police).

W was one of the worst Presidents ever- as he expanded the federal government to unprecedented levels. Not to mention got us into two illegal wars & occupations. F***k that guy for real.
It was that slime ball in a sea of puss Cheney that I wouldn't piss on if he was on fire.I really can't imagine a slimier steaming pile than him, maybe Pelosi.

MANKATO — The Mankato Mills Fleet Farm became the second local fuel seller in three months to be ordered by the state of Minnesota to stop selling gasoline so cheaply and to pay a substantial financial penalty for illegally low gasoline prices last spring and summer that resulted in area drivers paying some of the lowest prices in the state.

Fleet Farm joins Sam's Club in agreeing to pay a $40,000 civil penalty, although each company will see half of the total forgiven if it stays in compliance with Minnesota's fuel pricing law in the future, according to the Department of Commerce. The law aims to keep large fuel sellers from offering fuel at extremely low levels to drive smaller competitors out of the market.

I've found outside of Paris, in the smaller towns- they are pretty cool. The Parisians are 100000% f**king assholes though.
Indeed, I completely agree.  I was making a cheap joke at the expense of all the nice folks out in the provinces.  My apologies to Mrs. CD.

Even in Paris, I've found some decent folk.  I don't think it's really all that different than London or New York or many other very large cities.  Big city folk just tend to be less polite and more impersonal, all the world around.

yeah also very true. the more people there are in one small confined area- the more you're just bound to run into more assholes or someone just having a bad day. it's a simple numbers game.

I've had good luck in Paris so long as I get far away from tourists.  It's the tourists that make Parisians annoying, and annoyed.

Ron Wyden is one of the few good guys on many things- and he's not that far off here.
Do you think 20 years ago billionaires didn't understand this tactic?  Or 50 years ago?

That strikes me as completely idiotic twaddle.

Government will always grow larger, no matter the rhetoric.  Until one day it doesn't.  That would be a calamity.

A lot of the things we don't like about government are simply inherent.  One can of course say "Well, lobbyists are horrible, we should get rid of them.", but it isn't going to happen (nor would it really fix much of anything).  We can say we'd prefer smaller government, but it isn't going to happen.  We can say we would like to end the corn ethanol program, but that too isn't going to happen.  Iowa, caucuses etc.

MSNBC is something else....had to throw in that bullshit cheerleading line...."despite booming economy" :043:

record levels of inflation, home prices out of control and unaffordable for the working class- rent increases all across the country- in some markets as much as 30%- regular people can barely afford gas, food, healthcare, cars, and rent.

The US economy has been expanding rapidly by about any metric one wishes to use.  I have a real fear that is about to reverse.

The unemployment rate is quite low as well.  Anyone can pick this or that metric to show good or bad times often as not.  And of course the GDP growth rates reflect a recovery from the COVID recession, not really much else.

For all of 2021, the nation’s gross domestic product — its total output of goods and services — jumped by 5.7%, the fastest calendar-year growth since a 7.2% surge in 1984 in the aftermath of a brutal recession.

I get it. I don't go anywhere near downtown Austin during ACL Festival or SXSW Festival.  I can't imagine 9 months of that, when a few weeks is more than enough.

Nevertheless, tourists are tourists, and tourist attractions are attractive for a reason.
