So what's your solution? Bringing the regulatory agencies directly under control of Congress as a Westminster-style Government?

No, my "solution" if you asked me is to realize that such imperfections are inherent in large governmental entities.  Inherent.  We can at best correct a bit, maybe, I don't see it happening though.

Much/most of our legislation is high technical, by its very nature, and I don't expect Congress to be able to provide coherent comprehensive legislation on those topics.

I do expect them to posture and make claims about how the other side is getting away with murder.  The job of a Congressman is to get reelected.

“Here’s what they do. They go to their accountant. They tell their accountant, ‘Make sure I don’t make any income, any salary.’ And then they say, ‘Make sure I can buy, borrow and die.’ And nobody knew anything about that years ago, and now people are pretty up on it,” said Senate Finance Committee Chairman Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), who has announced his own proposal to tax the unrealized gains of billionaires.

For one, you greatly reduce the size of all of the agencies, and eliminate many. Then, you contract the work to people who can actually do said work.

Government is too big, period.

I don't think lobbyists are at the root of the issue.  At the core, they are just folks who want to speak with people in office.  You can make them register, as we have, for all the good that does.  If they all disappeared tomorrow, we'd still have major issues, and little would have been solved.

I view them more as a symptom than a cause.  And who would write legislation for us if not lobbyists?
This is amazing.
I guess you can find at least 1 person to defend just about anything.

I don't believe I defended lobbyists.  I opined they were not the root cause of the main issues with government.  They are a means for the People to converse with our Representatives, and not all of them support Exxon et al.

It's facile to attach blame for a complex problem to one or two things.

With at least 75 million foreign tourists per year, France is the most visited country in the world and maintains the third-largest income in the world from tourism.

I've found outside of Paris, in the smaller towns- they are pretty cool. The Parisians are 100000% f**king assholes though.

Ron Wyden is one of the few good guys on many things- and he's not that far off here.

100%. And they ALWAYS make it bigger and more bloated. Constantly adding new agencies and departments (DHS, TSA, ICE) or bloating, expanding, and bastardizing existing ones (Capitol Police).

W was one of the worst Presidents ever- as he expanded the federal government to unprecedented levels. Not to mention got us into two illegal wars & occupations. F***k that guy for real.
