according to latest Harvard CAPS-Harris polling- if Presidential elections were held right now- Trump would edge Biden 47% to 41% - and it'd be even worse for the Dems in a match-up vs Harris.

Mark Penn, the co-director of the Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll survey, said that Trump’s early leads over both Harris and Biden speak less to the former president’s popularity and more to Biden and his administration’s current challenges with voters.

The poll found Biden’s current approval at just 39 percent, while majorities of respondents said that both the U.S. economy and the country as a whole are on the wrong track.

Why do we pine for "term limits" when it's pretty much an impossibility?

Maybe it's a great idea, but it's not going to happen, and this Convention of the States work around could be a terrible idea.
Term limits wouldn't be necessary, except that the masses are idiots.

Exhibit A:  congress has a toilet-bowl approval rating AND 90%+ of them get re-elected

Those 2 facts in concert are indefensible.

Yes, they are. There is a reason Illinois is in the toilet. The voters must like it that way because they keep voting for the same ass clowns.

The relevant fact is when polled about THEIR Congressman, many find him or her to be just fine, it's the rest of them they don't like.

And we get what we vote for, sort of.  Maybe our System is broken.

I think we need to take a REALLY HARD look at lobbyists and how to curb that.

I don't think lobbyists are at the root of the issue.  At the core, they are just folks who want to speak with people in office.  You can make them register, as we have, for all the good that does.  If they all disappeared tomorrow, we'd still have major issues, and little would have been solved.

I view them more as a symptom than a cause.  And who would write legislation for us if not lobbyists?

Our representatives, who are supposed to be acting in OUR interests. The ones who are supposed to serve, and then return to WORK like the people they supposedly represent.

How are things where you live, generally speaking?

Here everything is open, even the Symphony now is not requiring masks or vaccine cards.  Grocery stores seem well stocked, prices of course, well you know.  Gas is hovering around $4 for regular, the gas  tax was dropped temporarily.  The state is sending everyone who paid taxes checks apparently, $500 I think.  They are running a large surplus now, oddly enough.  New construction around us is going like crazy, some proposed projects have yet to break ground.  I'm keeping an eye out for projects being abandoned.  Weather is fantastic though some rain today with wind.  Traffic has been back to normal.  We had maybe 5 restaurants that closed during COVID.  More than that have opened in the past year, especially around Colony Square, I had problems getting a dinner reservation Saturday.  The new Persian restaurant is excellent, our favorite French place closed.  Filming is back close to what it was, this occasionally closes streets etc.  Sometimes I get to watch from our balcony.  There is a large group in the park right now filming something about a purple crayon.

I get conflicting reports about rents not going up, but with all the new buildings just on the market, I suspect they haven't as places compete for new renters giving out freebies to get you to sign.  Real estate is not lasting long on the market esp. single family.

Restaurants here are experiencing significant short-staffing problems, to the point that they're only able to seat 30%-40% of their tables, on busy weekend shifts.

This is new.  They were mostly back up to 100% by the summer of 2020.  But now, some aftershock in the employment market, is causing staffing issues.

I suppose it's possible that many of them found New Economy jobs that were more desirable.  But I find it hard to believe they ALL did.  Some people apparently just no longer need money.  Seems weird.

We have a certain economy for highlighting freaks.

This is a very dumb, bad article. But publishing it generates more revenue than a smarter article, precisely because we will share it to say how dumb it is. Just posting it and having us click to gawk encourages the outlet to publish more like it, and makes the writer more in-demand.

So in a way it is predicable. It’s the content our actions say we want to see.
