Why not just deliver a strike on Tel Aviv?

Israel would wipe out Tehran in 15 minutes, that's why.
yeah, this. Israel might be the most aggressive nation on planet earth.

Israel really lacks the offensive capability to launch much of a strike on Iran, the distances are too great.  They could with a one way trip perhaps, and with Saudi concurrence.  I suspect they would have attacked much earlier if they could have done anything of consequence.

If Israel were "left alone", how aggressive would it be outside its borders?

well had 5-6-7 other nations not come at them all at once attempting to wipe them from the face of the earth maybe it would not be so.They can not afford to let their guard down

One of the things Ive always liked about Israel is that require (or at least used to) all citizens to spend 2 years in the military.  There are some other countries that also do this.

Im a fan of the movie Starship Troopers where if you wanted to become a full citizen who could vote you had to spend one tour in the military.  They didnt make anyone join the military but you could not vote until you did.

FYI I highly recommend the book. The book really fleshed out ideas about duty and service that they didn't even remotely attempt to address in the movie. The book is actually quite deep for being a pretty short read, whereas the movie is just a dumb shoot-em-up action flick.

Israel has invaded the territory of other countries, specifically in 1967, the attempted to strike preemptively.  One can of course attempt to justify their strikes at Egypt in particular, but they did start the war.

You can’t vote until you maybe get disemboweled by aliens.

I’ve known a few folks who served in the IDF. Their takeaways were interesting. You have to serve alongside a more diverse group of folks, so I wonder if that kind of thing would put a dent in our silly divisive regionalism. It also breeds a more centered outlook on firearms, with less phobia or fetishism about them.

One downside is that the ultra religious very often do not serve, often faking mental illness or having outbursts to avoid serving. this is a little problematic, because that particular group tends to be the most hard line and aggressive politically, and grows at a rapid pace generationally. (Many of those communities tend to be pro religious academia, which oft means anti-full time job)

fascinating country that is well worth a visit
