The inept doofuses in the Russian navy have already hit several commercial vessels of various flags that are not Ukraine.  The ratcheting has already occurred and arguably they've already instigated WWIII.

Honestly, Turkey closing the straits might actually help SAVE the Russians from doing more stupid shit.

This.  As much as we here all HATE war, and death and destruction and families being ripped apart - and we do not want our own country to get involved…we have to watch carefully.

This is still an unprovoked attack and invasion of one nation on another- by an unstable leader who clearly fells emboldened.

If this continues beyond what we are seeing and spreads - which is not an unrealistic possibility- a completely different strategy may be unavoidable.  A real line in the sand might have to be drawn, otherwise there will be no reason for the unstable leader to stop.

I would hope, and assume that the leaders of this country and its closest allies are already preparing for that and are committed to where and what that line is.    This makes me very nervous-  it seems like a far away place to us here, and hopefully it settles down from its current level.  But it could easily explode into something bigger.

Louis is nowhere near Rushmore level. Too much of his comedy is saying horrible stuff for shock value. It can be funny, but I feel like too often it's just low hanging fruit.
Don’t know about shock value but he ain’t close to Rushmore level. For me anyway.

carlin, Pryor, robin williams, Chappelle, dangerfield, Eddie Murphy, McDonald, Steve Martin, Mitch hedberg are all above him. I’d even argue guys like Kaufman, Patton oswalt, Chris rock and Seinfeld too.

I don't find the mases being good at walking the walk of stoic philosophy, lol.  Agree with it?  Sure.  Sounds good?  Yeah!  Actually living that life......errrr no.

Agree.   still, some of the concepts within the Stoic give, at the very least, a perspective to consider. This one is an example for our current world situation-  - don’t you agree?

US defense budget? $778 billion. Russia? $61.7 billion.

China is 2nd place at $252 billion. No one else is over $100 billion. Just US and China. 3rd is India at $72.9 billion.

The reason our basic gear costs so much is that the DoD specifies certain attributes for said hammer, and the testing costs money.  There is for example f JANAF test for certain things, and it's expensive, so your "hammer" has to pass those tests, and if it doesn't you need to make a special batch that does.

(JANAF relates to something different, same same.)

They don't buy a batch of off the shelf hammers.

Sure.  We're very much arrogant tyrants on the world stage.  We're the John Cena character on SS - we love peace and we don't care how many people have to die to achieve it.

Imagine growing up in Egypt or the Philippines or Denmark and learning about the US's military might.  The bases all over the world.  Having 10 of the 11.5 aircraft carriers on the planet.  The defense budget that's higher than the next 7 or 10 or 12 countries combined.
And our recent history of invading and country-building and having nukes and telling other countries they can't have any, etc.

And to think - that same country may change its leader (and its ideology) every 4 years......that would frighten the shit out of me.

I mean, how many countries are only allied with us because being a friend is safer and more responsible than being apathetic (not even a foe)?  On our end, we think, great, who cares why, at least they're with us.  But looking at it from their side, it's awful.  They're friends with the bully just to avoid getting beaten up.  That's no friendship.
