More construction, it's everywhere, the odd thing is the low building was a funeral home and they are building around it leaving it as a restaurant, or something.

I don't drink much vodka, but I figure Tito has directly given me several hundred dollars worth of his product over the past 20 years, and indirectly helped me raise over $100,000 for charity, so when I go to the store there's only one brand I'll walk away with.

Just across the street from the above is yet another apartment building going up, and just across the street and down is more student housing going up, that is a very popular thing around here, deluxe student apartments.

Russian cargo ship seized in the English Channel (cnbc.com)

Russia's strategic weakness is access to sea lanes.

that' why it won't happen
it's never happened, but that doesn't mean it won't. Mistakes, miscalculations, and accidents happen. And it's come close to happening. Came damn close in 1995.

Probably one of the best documentary films I've ever seen, on nuclear weapons/war. Countdown to Zero.

yeah and I believe literally their only warm water port is in Crimea, but even then Turkey could shut them out of the straits of Bosphorus.

George Carlin — 'Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.'
one of the GOATs. I've got Carlin, Pryor, Chappelle, and Louis CK on my Mt Rushmore.

It will be interesting if this whole thing backfired on Putin in that he exposes weaknesses in his military. Lack of air superiority etc.

US defense budget? $778 billion. Russia? $61.7 billion.

China is 2nd place at $252 billion. No one else is over $100 billion. Just US and China. 3rd is India at $72.9 billion.

If Putin's intention really was to limit NATO encroachment on his border, then he's miscaclulated.

Badly.

well, thankfully it's not up to "the people" who does and doesn't get into a military alliance that is largely controlled by the United States. No country has a right to join NATO. Foreign policy decisions are made by (usually) elected heads of state and their unelected advisors and other unelected bureaucrats. I doubt the US will be looking to expand NATO any time soon after this whole Ukraine episode, and quite honestly we do have some blame in this shitshow.

Don't get me wrong the illegal invasion and death and destruction going on right now and all the lives lost and blood split is solely on the hands of Vladimir Putin, but the US could've taken actual steps to prevent this, and we should've never been trying to add Ukraine to NATO since 2008, nor meddling with that countries government and internal affairs.

Expanding NATO will just lead to more war and more death imo.

Putin may lose even if he takes over Ukraine.  He would "have":

Control of a damaged country with a hostile population very difficult to control
Enmity from the West for a long time
A damaged military, and one effectively destroyed in a former ally
Sanctions, to the extent that hurts
Discord in Russia
Hopefully, motivation for Germany to really change its energy policies
Maybe even the US would as well
Never going to happen. Germany and all of Western Europe is still buying Russian gas and oil as we speak. Western Europe is also vehemently against removing Russia from SWIFT.

US LNG is 40-50% more expensive than Russian gas- and this doesn't take into account the cost of the infrastructure to actually be able to import the gas and use it.

Germany changing it's energy policies hurts Germany- and it only helps the US- who they'd be buying most of their LNG from.
