Another thing Canada has done is suspend Parliament

I had not realized this

This crazy guy has absolutely no one he has to listen to or that provide any oversight

thats downright scary

how in hell can any country which is supposed to be a democracy allow this to happen

They won't let me give blood anymore. The burnt orange color scares the hell out of the doctors.

Canada's Parliament SUSPENDS debate on Trudeau's Emergencies Act | Daily Mail Online

Canada
's Parliament suspended Friday's debate on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's emergency powers, sparing the Liberal leader another day of uncomfortable speeches from MPs who fiercely oppose his use of the draconian Emergencies Act.

MPs were told on Thurday night that due to the 'exceptional circumstances' of police closing in on Freedom Convoy protesters they needed to avoid the area around parliament for their own safety.

will he give up his current power

I think the people will have to force him to do so

just looked up Chipotle. Their revenue/sales actually increased by roughly $400 million in 2020 from 2019. And their profit went up by about $6 million in 2020 vs 2019. Revenues in 2020 were $5.9 billion with $356 million in profit.

Their revenue and profit increased drastically from 2021 to 2019 - from $5.5 billion in 2019 with $350 million in profits to $7.5 billion in revenue in 2021 - with $653 million in profits.

Just one scenario, but I think the dude with the original tweet may have been right in this specific case. Haven't dug into the other companies just yet.

edit: and I think the original twitter guy was posting about YoY vs 2020 - but not 100% on that.
I wonder if this could be showing that all the restaurant closures throughout the nation (reportedly as many as 40-60% - gone forever) may be making big chains like Chipotle sales shoot through the roof. They did $1.6 billion more in revenue in one year-  that's pretty astounding. Looking at their sales - they've never made jumps like that the last 5+ years. Not sure that is all attributed to increases in prices.

Tons of local mom and pops gone out of business forever- fewer and fewer dining options- Chipotle snatches up that business. The big boys got the bailouts and are stronger than ever. Wall Street got a whale of a deal while Main Street took it up the you know what.
Yeah, I asked purely because I didn't know...

But it would make perfect sense that the pandemic benefits take out, delivery, and drive through fast food restaurants.

If a company's SALES go up a lot, their profit usually will follow, without price gouging.  Sales volume is a major creator of profit, you have to sell "X" units to break even, and everything over "X" is going to be highly profitable because your fixed costs are already paid for (labor, overhead, insurance, etc.).

Restaurants that are sit down only because of their food are going to get hurt in any shut down scenario.  Fast food, pizza places, Chipotles of the world, will fare better in comparison.

Interesting, says mental activity burns more calories than thought relative to physical.

No wonder I'm overweight.

I want to shoot Chipotle into the sun. Just once. Just one of their restaurants. Shot into the sun. I should have that right.

I have no specific animus about Chipotle.  My wife likes it, we go on rare occasion, I'm not really a fan.  I've converted her to Willy's lately, I think it's better and it's local.

Chipotle apparently does a good job with their business model.  Their delivery of food is pretty good in my experience, the folks behind the counter are not that friendly, it's not up to Chick-Fil-A standards.  The only reason I go to CFA is their workers are so pleasant, aside from being in a hurry for lunch.  The food is OK.

I have really noticed around here a huge surge in delivery over the past two years, it has continued after the shut downs.  I infer a lot of folks got used to it and like it.  The strange thing is we can walk rather quickly to a number of places, but if we're hard at work (ha) I can see delivery being a plus.  Our front desk often has delivered food sitting on it.  Uber eats et al. must be doing pretty well too.  Grub Hub, might be an investment opportunity?

It takes more energy to shoot something into the Sun than to shoot it out of the Solar System entirely.

Kirby Smart thought he messed it all up early in Georgia Bulldogs football tenure (247sports.com)

An interesting comment therein about making tough practices more fun, somehow.  I understand about making practices hard so that the games are "easy", everyone knows that, but to somehow generate fun?  Sounds tough.

I had leaned to thinking Smart was a "decent coach with a ton of talent unlikely to make it to the top" to thinking "Well, OK, he delivered once, and almost before that, so maybe he is a pretty good coach."

But winning it all does take a bit of luck at times, not just having a great team.

The process for distilling whisky is believed to have been brought to Scotland by monks, sometime between the 12th and 14th centuries, perhaps due to the difficulty in obtaining wine there. Scots acquired a fondness for the beverage, and along with their expertise in distilling it they also developed expertise in avoiding the taxes imposed on it. Scottish immigrants brought both of those skills to the United States and practiced them assiduously.

During the aging process some of the whisky evaporates. The monks called this “the angels’ share,” and that's what it is still called today. How quickly the angels take their share depends upon the environment where the aging is occurring. Whereas in Scotland the angels’ share is about 2% per year, it is much greater in Kentucky. It takes about three years for a barrel of spirits aging in Scotland to be reduced as much as an identical barrel aging in Kentucky would be reduced in a single year.

Speaking in Vilnius, Lithuania, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said it was apparent that Russia had made a decision and was moving into the right positions to conduct an attack on Ukraine.
“They’re uncoiling and now poised to strike,” Austin said.
If you look at the stance he is in today, it's apparent [Putin] has made a decision and they are moving into the right positions to conduct an attack.”
Austin reiterated earlier comments from US President Joe Biden that Russian President Vladimir Putin had decided to invade after weeks of the US saying he hadn’t made a decision.
Austin and others in the US continue to say diplomacy is still possible, and he added, “I believe we should try until the very last minute, until it’s not possible.”
Some background: On Friday, President Biden said he believed Russian forces intended to attack Ukraine "in the coming week" or sooner, and that an attack will target the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv.
"As of this moment, I am convinced he's made the decision," Biden said during remarks at the White House.
