Those are local prices here in FL.

Who gets the burger only?

Nobody.

In two years, those meals will be $15.00 - unless the whole system goes robotic.

Robots don't make $15/hour.
Maybe people will stop eating McDonalds. We can only dream.

I doubt people stop eating fast food, or sodas, or desserts, and whatever else is cheap, fast, and reasonably tasty.

Fat, sugar, salt, caffeine, alcohol, the five major food groups.

Janitor?

Those are referred to as "building engineers" now. Grr...
Back when I did that work, I referred to it as “mop jockey,” though I had to outsource some things to environmental services when they were above my pay grade.

We have a "building engineer" now, hired a couple years back.  He's basically someone who fixes minor stuff and calls in the pros when he can't.    We also have a janitor, a short Mexican dude who works his A off.

I was looking through the "junk drawer" this morning and came across the menu for our local haunt we like to frequent.

In May 2020, when we first moved here, the burger was $8.99.

Fast-forward to now, and it is $12.49. Crazy.

I wonder if someone is trying to ween the US off of meat.

There’s a joke I’ll sidestep and just say that as an economics major, it makes perfect sense.

Those places are warm and have big cities. People should go there. I would be interested in a historical look at people‘s mobility and how that was impacted by financial means, though it might come out in the wash.

Well if they are, they'll be going up against the Beef Council.  Those guys don't mess around, so good luck with that.

I admit to not knowing the exact workings of the back of a McDonald’s kitchen, but if any restaurant could automate, it would probably start with them?

And they have no state income tax.

Did you see the robot hamburger video I posted?  That machine is most likely cost-prohibitive currently for a place like McDonald's, but it won't be forever.  And the horizon is probably less than a decade before it's a realistic option.
