The government needs to rebuild the immigration infrastructure so that it doesn't take 10+ years to get through the system. I'm a firm believer in legal immigration as well, but the pace has to pick up.
We currently have aprox 40 million legal immigrants which makes the US the number 1 in the world for total immigrants

we currently increase that number but 1 million every year

while the immigration law might need to be improved we cant just open the doors with no borders

They have made it stupid hard to immigrate to the US legally. So many of us would not be here today if the same regulations were in place when our ancestors came here in the mid 1800s to early 1900s.
Bull Shit many were sent back to EUROPE,not back over the fence to give it another try.For some sort of affliction of mind or body. When those ships sailed the N.Atlanic it wasn't a slam dunk they'd make the eastern seaboard, hell down in the Carolinas many vessels hung up on reefs as occupants  perished in sight of land.Should they some how make it - opportunity was all that was given them, there were no government safety nets then
Suburbia:Where they tear out the trees & then name streets after them.

COVID lessened US oil production, significantly.

U.S. Field Production of Crude Oil (Thousand Barrels per Day) (eia.gov)

2021 production is higher than it was in the same month in 2020, lower than in 2019 but higher than in 2018.

The drop was due to COVID.

I'm sick and tired of everything being blamed on Covid.

I blame government officials (elected or otherwise) for using Covid as a strategy.

Get on with life already.

True. We should stop using year-over-year economic indicators as a proxy for more bland political back and forth.

Yeah, I can't imagine that a massive decline in personal travel due to COVID might impact oil company plans.

Or that a massive predicted decline in auto sales would cause automakers to cancel/push out semiconductor deliveries and now they're scrambling to get parts.

Or that a bunch of people shutting down / restarting factories producing goods due to COVID might destabilize a complex and interconnected world supply chain not only in finished goods but in the intermediate goods and raw materials needed to produce finished goods.

Or that a massive drop in international passenger air travel due to COVID would cause a bunch of companies who rely on shipping goods on those planes to have to move them through other avenues (container ship), exacerbating those same supply chain issues.

It's probably just fake news. It's probably all Biden's fault.

*Yawn*

You know what is Biden's fault? His lack of diplomacy and trying to curry favors from the most powerful man in the world in the oil bidness...MbS. President F**k-stick shit for brains refuses to pick up the phone and call him or fly out to Saudi Arabia and kiss his ass a little bit and try and get him to play some ball. Asshole won't even acknowledge him and plans to "make him a pariah" - shit for brains own words.

I'm not talking about April 2020. I'm talking about now.

It's endemic and it will be with us forever. Time to f'ing move on.

Now.

My point is that you [appeared] to be responding to potential impacts that happened in relation to the oil markets that we were discussing.

My point was that all sorts of things got screwed up due to COVID in 2020, and not just April, and it's going to take a while for those effects to normalize. We all want them to be smooth sailing, but the ripples from the disruptions of 2020 will be with us well into next year [hopefully not so much beyond].

As for your second point that we need to move on as a country/world, which is different than "blaming everything on COVID", I agree.

I'm not into the oil thing, other than I agree with 320 about being self-sufficient and not stopping pipelines and drilling.

Of course I don't like paying more for gas, but unlike many, I can still afford it and it doesn't affect my life in any way.
