Yes, that is their mission in a nutshell. You don't often see people breaking the law in the face of a LEO for a good reason. The question is, are they enforcing laws that you disagree with. If so, take it up with the politicians. The police enforce the laws on the books, not just the ones you agree with. 

Actually, this is wrong. Even you know this is wrong - in your community the police don't just run around trying to enforce every law. They are called when needed, like when some dumbass runs a stop sign all the time. Come take a look and try to solve the problem. Not tell you that every street deserves the same enforcement and all laws need enforced in the same way. 

Yes they all deserve scrutiny, but you seem to imply that the police deserve more. Yes there are bad cops out there and when caught, should be tried for any crimes or violations that they commit. And if convicted, should be sentenced to the fullest extent of the law. But I also feel the same about ANY one that receives a pay check from the government.

I don't necessarily mean scrutiny as in make sure the policeman is following the law (though that is obviously important). I mean scrutiny in is this government policy and action actually making the community better and safer. From what I've seen, the answer to that question is often no.
