Gimme a call when you're in town!  I live about 10 minutes from Lake Travis.

Well, 10 minutes from part of Lake Travis anyway.  And hour and a half from the opposite side.

But anyway, call me.
You bet I will.

I feel like there's an interesting interplay between big cities, the surrounding suburbs, and then the rural areas of the state.

I really saw it when I lived in GA.

Atlanta is hardcore liberal. The rural areas are hardcore conservative. The Atlanta suburbs are basically libertarian. The social attitudes are a lot more liberal than rural areas because it's still a very metropolitan area where you're exposed to people unlike yourself constantly, but those people have money and they don't want it taxed away so they are fiscally conservative.

It wouldn't surprise me if Dallas and Houston are becoming pretty liberal [by Texas standards], and the surrounding suburbs have people fleeing the city area who are more socially liberal [by Texas standards] but have enough income that they're fiscally conservative and want to keep it.

Suburbs in most of the cities are pretty liberal as well.  There's probably some of that going on here in Texico, but the people with real money that want to protect it, all live on ranches out in the boonies.

Does the rest of Texas even claim Austin as part of Texas? I thought they believed that Austin was just a bunch of hippie weirdoes and disavowed any connection with them...
Sorry, it's not in South Florida. It's therefore a shithole.

The Horns are their only "helmet." Do they not enjoy statewide popularity?

Texas is blowing up thanks in large part to people/businesses fleeing ShitholeCalifornia for Texas.

Only other place I'd consider moving to is probably Texas.

I'm pretty sure you'd like South OC.

Living here is pretty idyllic with the exception of the high cost of living and the high taxes. But if you can afford to live in SoFla, you can probably afford to live in SoCal.

You'd hate LA County with a passion though.

Are there constant punk rock concerts as was depicted in the early 80s movie Suburbia staring Flea?

You see that dynamic in Minnesota as well. Minneapolis and St Paul (and to a lesser extent, Rochester and Duluth) are very liberal. The 7-county metro used to be Republican strongholds but they have gotten more and more liberal over the last 10 years. And aside from pockets of outstate MN (most notably the reservations and some Farmer-Labor holdouts up in the Red River country), outstate has gotten very "conservative".

The NW burbs of Chicago (W of Arlington) are still pretty conservative. Most of the Western too, and some of the Northern.

It's changing though. People like me are leaving.

Chicago's huge.

I bet very few lifers have been to every single suburb in the metro at least once.

I lived in Columbus for 30 years, and only made it to Pickerington a couple of times for example.

Chicago is way bigger than that.

Well, given what I do for a living, and having done it in and around Chicago for 34 years, I can say I've been everywhere and seen everything.

I bet.

I suppose it helps not having much of an east side to have to explore, due to the lake being where it is.
