Did anyone else happen to watch this on Netflix?  It’s pretty good.

Just saw it on my Netflix home screen last night. Will definitely watch it.

I remember seeing the fight live at a friend's apartment while pregaming for some Friday night party. The game was on in the background until one of us saw it. All of us were slack-jawed watching it develop.

You may want to revise that opinion. The US Capital building as been attacked on a number of occasions, with the most recent prior to Jan 6, being in 1983 by a leftist group protesting military action in Lebanon and Grenada.

I'm not condoning the 1983 attack.  I don't remember it--maybe because I was in Grenada at the time--but I hope that the capital cops gave better than they got.

But that leftist group was not trying to stop the approval of the electoral college votes so as to overturn the result of a presidential election.
We've had riots in Washington before.  We've had riots around the Capitol before.  But, until 6 January 2021, we had never had an attempt to violently reverse a presidential election.

There was no attempt to reverse a vote. They were there to protest the results and urge their elected officials to vote against confirming the vote which would have then pushed the decision to the House, as per the Constitution.

The narrative that they were trying to overthrow the government with an unarmed group of people, most of which were simply walking through and taking pictures, is absurd.  I'm not saying that there were a few that were out of line, breaking windows and pushing and attempting to fight with the Capital police. But a majority of them were not behaving this way.

My impression is they had the goal of altering the outcome of the vote, and clearly some of the group were willing to use violence to achieve that aim.

That is an extra legal activity obviously, and had they somehow succeeded, it would have been a very bad thing in my view.  Every subsequent election would be hostage to threat of force.  The System would simply fail.

Had they protested outside the Capitol, they would have been within their rights, aside perhaps from not having a permit.

some of the group, not many, gave it a weak effort to change the election result to see what would happen

it certainly wasn't a well planned or serious effort.  no real serious violence - no shots fired

capital police probably would have given more resistance if not for the previous issues with regard to police using too much force recklessly

The portable gallows and the shouts of "Hang Mike Pence" were not just a protest of the results of the election.
IMO, it's the attempt to normalize that day that is absurd.
I guess we'll just disagree about that.

Had the crowd been somehow able to alter the election, it would have been extra legal, and a bad thing in my view.  If they merely meant to protest, the obviously did it in a bad way, in my view.  Some were violent and caused mayhem and injuries.

they did it in a bad way, obviously
shouts of hang mike pence are nothing more than a verbal protest

yes, a few idiots in the crowd might have actually wanted to hang Pence, but come on man
