I've never had a miss due to bank error in 20 plus years.

...

I just paid my trash bill using the Schawb bank, I was not sure it would go through, first time set up, got an email when it was paid.  It's weird to me I get a trash bill.
Likewise I've never had any issue with bank error doing online bill pay--probably been doing it 10 years now? More trustworthy than USPS IMHO.

For some things that have the option I do pay on the actual biller website rather than routing it through BofA.

CD, I'm surprised you have a trash bill too... Being in high-rise living I would assume that was one of the amenities of the property and whatever HOA or other fees you're paying them.

Our trash bills recently went up. Used to be just under $50/quarter and now it's jumped to $65/quarter. I don't recall what justification they had for the increase. I suppose for basically $20/mo I just don't care.

Here in my area of Houston the trash bill is included in my water bill

$15.40/hour, perhaps? That's a roughly 18 percent increase in pay. You just got a 30 percent increase.

Could be, but I doubt garbage men were making less than that. I dunno... Do you need a CDL to drive a garbage truck? I would think so. And if I was Waste Management I wouldn't exactly trust one of those trucks to someone making less than that anyway...

Maybe it increased pay scales across the board so they need to pay their guys better, but I don't think a large portion of their workforce was making minimum wage.

It surprised me too, but I presume the city has to bill each residence.  My HOA includes water, hot water, cable, and internet, plus the usual, so it's otherwise very inclusive.  Otherwise I pay property tax of course and the mortgage, which I've cut by 3/4ths in 3 years.  Insurance on the place also, it's not much.

The building is a "midrise".

From Indeed:

Average Waste Management hourly pay ranges from approximately $9.00 per hour for Feeder to $28.00 per hour for Shift Manager.

do any of you use the bill pay service offered by many banks

I use it and think it sure beats licking envelops

Almost everything I pay is on autopay with the particular vendor.  I thought about consolidating to the pay service by my bank, but don't want to have to change everything. Only my landscaper gets a check.

Doesn't matter. When the floor rises (min wage) everything above it rises also. You can't expect to pay someone doing a $15/hr wage the same when McDonalds starts paying that to new hires.

Given the rates out there, I'm not hesitant at all to borrow. I will likely borrow for a car/SUV soon. At 3 percent, why not? We're hovering about 30% return on investments right now. Doesn't make sense to take away that return to not pay 3 percent.
This is one of those things that intuitively makes sense when I read it, but I also completely don’t trust it as an idea in practice.

Maybe a part of it is only trusting investment income so far, even as a look at the balance sheets.
