My biggest fears are quicksand.  And spiders, coach.

People should not "fill in the blank", but they do.

The wife mused about retiring in LV, to the point I checked our real estate in our price range.  It was attractive in one sense.

I've mused about that as well
but, I'll be retiring in Texas

I looked some into every state with no income  tax., more FL and TN because I know them better.  It's one factor.  I ran numbers on moving to some cheap condo in FL and converting all my retirement in one year to after tax monies.

The Fed tax was unpleasant.  But once I had all that done, I could live in California just fine.

seems like Cali has other ways of taxing folks

like sales tax and gasoline tax and everything else they can slap a tax on, which is most things

I could still manage CA aside from income tax, and the more rural areas even two hours east of SF are pretty nice I think, and lower COL.

People should not live in a desert.
Don't let a little thing like drinking water prevent you from creating a massive city!!!

How big of one are we talking?

It might be that I'm a good sleeper, and thus slept through many small quakes, but in the grand scheme of regional natural disasters, the quake worries always seemed overblown.
Problem is that the earthquake will come from just offshore.

And it could be MASSIVE... Which even worse than the quake, generates a giant tsunami.

Happened about 321 years ago, estimated to be between 8.7 and 9.2 on the Richter.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1700_Cascadia_earthquake

Quite possibly much more damaging and causing much more loss of life than if the "big one" hits down here on the San Andreas...

They could build a large dam to head off the tsunami.

I could see that.

I've been through near about a decade of hurricane seasons. I'll take quakes over that all the time. I suppose there's the risk a multi-century tsunami is gonna kill my whole family, but stuff like Hugo and Andrew every so often, not a fan.

Had been meaning to try this place, it was pretty decent, for ATL.  The servers appeared to be Hispanic along with several patrons.

La Hacienda - About (lahamidtown.com)

I got full anyway.

Somewhere along the way, lunch started being nearly $50 after tax and tip even with no alcohol.
