Last time I was in Lafayette IN I was served a quesadilla, and the waitress (who I'd venture to say has never left this country) pronounced the second half of it like it's spelled... But oddly enough got the first half right.

Oh no, that would have been even more awkward.

I just said it with a "ch" sound like cheese, rather than the throaty H sound that people of the Tribe would use.  Hallah.

I love the use of throaty there. Because it’s a sound/letter that isn’t really part of our alphabet.

We make jokes about the smoldering ruin of California, but if that’s a unicorn in your part of SoCal ... things might be more dire than I thought.

No kidding.  In my part of town, soccer mom milfs hitting the store after their gym workouts are quite common, and they're spectacular.
