Technology is slowing down and will continue to slow down
All the other stuff was cool, but this is literally and demonstrably false.

There is ongoing research in the mechanisms of aging. We have some good understanding of HOW we age. We haven't really figured out very much how to slow or stop that process. It might be impossible. I don't know. But if it's possible, we're at a better time in history than ever to figure it out.

Will it happen in my lifetime? Well, one of the ideas being floated is that every advance that gets us partially there helps people live longer for the next advances to get us the next extension to be developed, such that at some point simply getting to step 1 may allow you to live long enough to see the problem solved. The question is whether step 1 is figured out before I'm too old and decrepit to make use of it, or after I've already passed.

Either way, it's exciting.
My guess is that even if a method to delay or stop aging is found it will be far to late for you and I. I'm in my mid 40's so even if a miracle drug to completely stop the aging process is readily available in 30 years, that would only permit me to maintain my mid 70's age. Additionally, there is the mechanical wear-and-tear issue. Stopping genetic aging wouldn't stop rotator cuffs, hips, knees, and other joints from wearing out.

It did, but I do not see this as an unbreakable law and I believe that the rate is slowing and will continue to decline.

Technology is slowing down and will continue to slow down because today we have alternative priorities and are ruled by corrupt morons.
Disagree entirely on technology slowing down.

Humans only went to the moon because of the space race--the forces of capitalist US and communist Russia were vying to prove to the world that they were supreme.

So we spent a shitload of money on something that had no intrinsic economic value... A tourist trip. Vacation, as it were, to the moon.

Note that sending things [satellites] into space is of big commercial value. It's of enough value that it's a for-profit business.

Sending people into space? Not so much. Maybe eventually.

Radical life extension is a much different prospect. How much would you pay to halt/reverse aging? How much would you pay to be in the prime of health perpetually? To not wake up with random things hurting because you're on the wrong side of 40? To feel as young and strong and wonderful as you did ever day at the age of say 25-30, to have that metabolism, to have that vigor?

There's a huge economic opportunity available to anyone who figures this out.

Think of how much Americans pay every year for boner pills. You don't think they'll pay TONS more for pills that restore them to their 25-year-old selves when they could f&$k all night?

I've made that joke before. They'll figure out how to halt aging when I'm 85.

And then I'll end up stuck as the 85-year-old body in a world full of people who are perpetually 25.

That, my friend, would be terribly depressing. :'(

If they can figure out how to slow or halt aging, then it's not completely unrealistic to think they could figure out how to reverse it.

Sure, so I have to be 85 for 50 years before I can go back to 25?

I was actually thinking the same thing when I typed that. I'd be lucky enough to make it to 85 only to be one of the only old people in a world full of a growing and growing number of young people.

A brit that lived in Cincinnati, taking Cincinnati chili home and turning it into British fusion cuisine.  What could possibly go wrong?
