you fellas believe the student loan forgiveness thing is about helping students?

many, possibly most "student" loans are sold to lenders by the students to get a better interest rate or terms or consolidate into one more manageable loan

I assume, student loan forgiveness will benefit billionaire bankers and lenders, not so much students.

Maybe I'm just jaded and hopefully wrong, but when the feds decide to help someone, it's usually their billionaire buddies, not poor college students

I'm sure it would help some deserving individuals, but many, if not most, not really much, they could buy another Porsche I guess.  And would there be any end to it?

A HS kid today would be stupid not to get loans to the max even if his parents can afford to pay for college.

To me, it's an idiotic idea to have folks who never went to college paying for those who did with loans who often are making more money.

I'm not a huge fan of the idea of student loan forgiveness, but I'm also not a fan of what our university education system has become.

The focus on getting a college education that in most cases is not geared toward enablement toward joining the workforce, yet is still an almost mandatory prelude to joining the workforce, is frustrating and misguided.  And the widespread availability of loans to fund this unnecessary and misplaced education, is enabling the universities to increase costs at a dramatic rate, without much check or balance to the value of the money being spent or the appropriateness of the education being provided.

It's all sad and broken and the students are the ones getting caught in the crossfire.

In reality, a large percentage of those students would be better served in vocational training and never should have gone to college at all.  But in our country, the American Dream has become conflated with insistence upon a college education, and vocational training is consequently stigmatized.  Until we can correct those issues, I don't see much chance of reforming the entire post-secondary-educational system in the US.

How in the world Does loans not being repaid help bankers?  As a banker I can assure you that you are dead wrong on this one

Europe is very different here, and much less egalitarian than the US.  They stream kids early and only 35% or so attend college.  The US is almost double that.  Kids with academic records below average go to college.  And their kids in college study only their major and closely related subjects, if you major in EE, you take engineering, only, not history or English or whatever, maybe some math or physics, maybe.

Their college level kids are expected to have learned history and language and whatever else.  Ours haven't.

How about a banking lawyer?

I am lucky to never have had much issue with banks.

Yes, I'm a big fan of how Europe handles it.

But as you say, they're not nearly as egalitarian as we are. I don't know HOW to change our system to work better for our citizens, but I do believe that the college financial crisis will only get worse unless/until we do.

You're quite literally backwards.
Where is this army of rich young adults who can repay their loans, but aren't?!??   How is that (fictional) population not dwarfed by tens of millions of poor young adults just getting by, with student loan debt they can never hope to repay???

Success can be had by anyone who truly wants it.
Aaaaaaaand here's where you're lost.  You can't fathom a person who truly wants success not achieving it.  You're in some sort of alternate universe, friend.  And this proves it.

See, I think you are the one who is lost. You have very little faith in people, it seems. I choose to think otherwise. And to think positively.

Yes, in a fairy princess land where some people, largely due to their station in life and/or what base they were born on, face impossible to overcome obstacles over and over until they're subjected to a shit life of survival in a society that doesn't care.

But I'm sure I'm just making that up.
Come to Maryvale in urban Phoenix and walk around telling people that all they have to do is truly want success for it to happen.
Having your sidearm might come in handy.  But that's just them being violent against you, a positive-thinker, oblivious to the actual world.
