I type "everything...your whole situation" and you come away with race card?  This is revealing of where your head's at.  I don't find you worthwhile of remaining in this conversation that you weren't a part of in the first place.
The term is generally meant to be about finances, as I linked to other's opinions.  Someone who worked up from a relatively impoverished state to success didn't start on third base, or second, or first.  I'm not sure what else should be factored into "whole situation" when one uses the baseball analogy.  Obviously, having good parents is a big help, as is having some good teachers, and various and sundry, but starting on third base means financially.

Thank God for big government amirite???

From what I've read the biggest problem has been the EU, which is a much weaker version of a federal government compared to ours. Before they can take any action they need some sort of consent for every country, all while we could more or less just write checks to several companies without even Congressional oversight, which is what we did. Though I'm not sure there is a ton of American exceptionalism there. Pfizer took no money initially from us, but did in partnership with Germany, and their timeline was the same (and they did enter into contracts with out government later). The UK has been a bit better than us on vaccinations (Brexit?).
France has a MUCH more centralized government than does the US with much greater power vested in the President.  The EU obviously is not a country but a kind of financial merger of interests, each country remains largely independent and in control of matters such as this, and most other things unrelated to currency.

One issue they have is a higher percentage of folks who don't trust the safety of the vaccine, but that hasn't played much of a role as yet because they aren't getting enough vaccine, probably for complicated reasons.

A lot of European countries relied on the EU to fund and coordinate vaccine acquisition. This hasn't been great, resulting most of the EU countries haven't remarkably similar numbers. Also, they had contracted with the Astozeneca vaccine, which has both been unable to fulfill its commitments and at least had the appearance of problems. France and Germany have wildly different poll numbers on willingness to take the vaccine, but the actual rollout has been quite similar.

Any country that relied on the EU for something like this obviously made a huge mistake.  The wife tells me France did not, they usually go their own way.

France is a mess right now, shut down including schools this time.  They all told us not to come under any circumstance.  My step daughter is trying to figure a way to come back over here.

All this stuff is probably complex, but the "analyses" I see often are just political spin, and unreliable in my view.

I specified what I meant.  What it generally means is worth fuck-all here.  Butt out.

Looking into it further, I can give Trump some credit on this. Apparently the big contracts where the gov't agreed in advance to buy millions of doses of the vaccines if they were successful appear to be an executive branch action.

Not to say another President or administration wouldn't have done the same, but I'll call a spade a spade on this one. Kudos to him and his administration for doing it.
Yes, and believe me, that's ALL I'm saying.  That's ALL the credit I'm willing to give to the previous administration, but I do think they handled that bit pretty well.  If nothing else, Trump's natural tendency toward bullying, and single-minded focus on a few odd details, finally worked in our favor.

When you are saying its not economics but instead what you come into this world with

how else can it be meant but your sex or your race

now if you are commenting on male vs female you have my apology

I think you were saying if someone isnt white in this country they have a harder task being successful

which of course is playing the race card

and I dont need your permission to comment on this forum

Buddy....I'm starting to feel for you.  Your lack of depth on this thing probably isn't your fault.  But it's sort of illustrating what I mean by what base you're born on and your whole situation that is out of your hands.  Here are a few non-race (BECAUSE THAT'S ALL YOU'RE ABLE TO SEE) examples:
your mother's neonatal care
the type of interactions you had in your first 3 years of life (frequency, quality, type, etc)
the quality of your elementary school
the role you father played (quiet breadwinner, friendly, funny, disciplinarian, etc)
your parent's relationship - they're actual relationship, not the show they put on for you and your siblings (that all couples put on)
the memories that stuck with you from childhood - positive, negative - what ratio?  bullying, violent, boring, stressful?
yes, your race (gasp)
yes, your sex
hell, honestly, even your height/weight - was it a thing, was it not?  did you wish you were taller?  skinnier?  stronger?
.
I could literally sit here and type endlessly on this.  And your brain can't get past the race card.
I'm sorry your horizon is so close.  That must be frustrating.

youre moving the goal post

youre now including things you aren't born with saying Im short sighted for not knowing them

Hell I can do that

getting bit by a dog early in age so now youre afraid of animals

developing allergies and needing shots making you afraid of doctors

seeing a scary movie which made you afraid of the dark

there are a lot of other things that can happen to you after youre born but your original statement was
aspects that you are born with

you do a great job of trying to back track from your original statement but its pretty clear what your intent was

Things out of your control.  There are hundreds when you're born and it goes on from there.  And by the way, none of this has to do with you.  I guess 847 is busy getting humble.

After badge explained his situation, you claimed he only posted about his financial situation.  I showed that is generally what it means to be "born on  base".

His response was spot on with the normally understood meaning of the term.  If you want to be your own lexicographer, fine, but do it up front, not later, when folks respond using the NORMAL accepted definitions.

Now you get irritated when folks point out what a thing means when you misused the term.

So people who didn't turn out successful didn't want to be better?
.
Is taking out a school loan "begging" for money?
.
Stay humble.  Jesus christ.
Success can be had by anyone who truly wants it. Success is also defined differently by everyone.

.

When we have pols talking about $50K forgiveness (to help bratty white kids with shit degrees no less) of student loans, I get pissed off. Yes, people are begging for money.

.

Most MDs had to take out loans for med school, which makes sense, but it doesn't make sense for "us" to pay for their loans when they are making bank now.

If you took out a loan, fine with me, but pay it back, as you agreed to do back when.
