And those you consider to be the undesirable masses, consider you to be the undesirable masses in turn.

Same as it ever was.
There can be only one masses.

What always interests me is the members of the masses who don't recognize that they're the masses...

I use 'we' when discussing the masses.

We've discussed rail here a bit, so I wanted to pass this one along. Full disclosure--Cato is a libertarian think tank and this author is pretty much their expert on dismantling transit plans... So it's certainly not fair & balanced.

Yet I can't find much fault in it.

"high-speed" rail is being built in Florida right now. The trains max out at 130mph I think- which is fastest thing in the crummy USA train scene- far car from the top speeds trains in Europe & Asia hit. But hey, it's a start, right?

It was called "Brightline" but it's been rebranded as VirginTrains USA with Richard Branson getting involved. The stations/lines are already done and open from West Palm Beach to Ft Lauderdale to Miami. That's all been open for a couple years now- recently just shut down due to covid (THANKS CHINA)-  but super nice brand new trains, super nice brand new stations, and the tickets were cheap. I even took it a couple times. Freaking loved it. You can go from downtown WPB to downtown Miami in about an hr. They are currently building new rail out to Orlando Airport- then from MCO to Disney World.

Downtown Boca Raton is getting rail built and a brand new station built close to Mizner Park and a brand new station and rail is being built at the Aventura Mall (super high-end mall in Aventura- which is a rich ass city just 10 miles or so north of Miami lined as far as the eye can see with multi-million dollar condo high-rises).

So VirginTrains USA high-speed rail is going to go from Miami -> Aventura -> Ft Lauderdale -> Boca Raton -> West Palm Beach - > MCO -> Disney World - and back by 2022. Pretty f'n cool. Just wish they could hit like 200mph. Miami and the stops in between WPB- definitely nowhere near enough room to hit those kind of speeds- but nothing but white trash cows and farm land with cows as far as the eye can see from WPB to Orlando- plenty of space to go faaaaast.

BTW for something like Yelp, you can't just look at the star rating and go with that... It's always important to read reviews too. With that you can get a much better sense of the the quality of the establishment based on the quality of the reviews you read.
If a place has almost 5,000 reviews and it's average review is 5*.....it's really damn good. Just think of how many idiots and assholes there are on the internet. That kind of rating is impossible. Places like that- always live up to the hype.

Just looking at the top 5 in my own specific suburb, 3 of the top 5 are good to quite good, and the other two are absolute trash.  Like, vomit-inducing garbage.

So you've got a 60% chance of a good meal in my town if you trust Tripadvisor, and a 40% chance of repeatedly shitting your own pants within about 6-8 hours.
I've found TripAdvisor isn't great for suburbs. Really just good for the really big cities/tourist spots.

I found the same to be true when I was in Italy.  Didn't matter what restaurant I walked into off the street was great.

Been a long time since I was in Paris and I can say that no place that I ate there stood out as good, let alone great. Now done in Nimes and Nice, I thought the food was good.

Only thing that made Paris great for me was The Louvre, Notre Dame and driving down to Versailles.
Heh, man I had the opposite experience. I had some great meals in Italy, but certainly not all of them. Where Paris was fabulous - I say this all the time but we went to a Mexican restaurant there and had the best Mexican food I've ever had, something I'm still chasing. In any event, we also went to the Notre Dame, the Louvre, and Versailles, and honestly I could have skipped all of them and been happier for it.

Gotta love how you disparage those of us that don't happen to share your affinity for big city living.

Public Service Announcement:  This is why anecdotal evidence isn't useful.  Person A has one experience and Person B has the opposite experience.  Both are correct for themselves, but neither is right overall.
.
Thank you for the fine example.  No, this post isn't the problem in any way, it's a useful teaching tool.

Don't you mean fine people of a certain persuasion?

In my 5 visits, I've only had one bad meal in Italy. Of course, it was near the Coliseum.

I've found TripAdvisor isn't great for suburbs. Really just good for the really big cities/tourist spots.
My "suburb" is directly connected to the Austin metro of 2.2M people.  It has two of the five best BBQ restaurants, in the best BBQ city, in the entire world.  Neither of those even made the top 50 restaurants in my area.

You like Tripadvisor, I get it.  I think it sucks only slightly less than Yelp.
