Great Play by a great player
« on: November 29, 2023, 01:21:52 PM »
In this day and age of NIL, transfer portal, Bowl game sit outs, and coaches getting paid $76 million not to work it’s easy to get jaded about college football and forget what initially drew us to it.

Below was the final play of Zach Frazier’s career at WVU.  Frazier is a WV kid who grew up 20 minutes from Morgantown and was a 5 year starter at WVU.  He’s one of the best Centers in the country and has a great shot to win the Rimington.  Alabama offered him a lucrative NIL package at the end of last season that he turned down (though he was getting taken care of in Morgantown) to play one more season at WVU.

Saturday night against Baylor WVU got the ball on its 20, with 1:14 on the clock, no timeouts, and down 4.  On the screen play below Frazier is basically carrying the WR for a 1st down when he’s hit from behind.  He broke his ankle on the play, but had the presence of mind and toughness to get off the field to avoid a 10 second runoff.

WVU went on to score the GW TD with 23 seconds left on the clock.

that is awesome! hope he fully recovers and has a great career either in nfl or whatever his choice is.

glad he chose morgantown too. though with our snapping trouble we definitely could have used him, not to mention his toughness. but being a hometown hero, having those ties to your school is what makes cfb so special and the biggest pitfall of portal and nil stuff.

Yeah, and that wasn’t a slam at Bama.  And it’s not like Frazier didn’t have NIL deals here.  I’m not trying to make it more Hallmark than it is.
