Saturdays America, by Dan Jenkins.  Longtime SI writer.  This will make you remember why you love college football

Loose Balls.  This was an amazing book about the run of the ABA.

The Ones Who Hit the Hardest.  It's a fascinating take about the transition of America from a country who built things, to a country who sold things, through the lens of the Steelers-Cowboys rivalry of the '70s as the two sides of that

Crazy '08, how a cast of  cranks, rogues, boneless and magnates created the greatest year in baseball history.  By Cait Murphy.

Brilliant history not just the baseball.

The Courting of Marcus Dupree by Willie Morris is superb too,  old school recruiting,  race, college football.

Back to your thoughtful comment @ELA in the mlb thread.

Ty Cobb, a Terrible Beauty by Charles leerhsen is the authoritative Cobb biography.  A scholar's dream.    Stump's smear job and later film is such a shame.
