Good Slate this week
« on: October 30, 2024, 11:50:37 AM »
Legitimately good slate of B1G games this week. I don't have much in the way of particulars, but as I look at the way our rankings have fluctuated over the course of the season, this week feels like a lot of really evenly matched, show-me type of games.

Penn State/Ohio State is the marquis one, but Oregon going to Michigan is Oregon's first/only (I hope Wisconsin is one, too) real road test.

Wisconsin @ Iowa: I love the Wisconsin/Iowa rivalry. I know it's not generally for the Rose Bowl (or whatever we're trying for now), but just seeing those guys line up in the trenches screams classic Big Ten football to me.

Minnesota @ Illinois is a chance for each to prove what they are worth.

USC @ Washington is a classic Pac-10 [sic--I said what I meant to say] battle, between two underperforming, but talented teams. This is a save what's left of your season kind of game.

Indiana @ Sparty: MSU won't roll over at home. Another chance for IU to prove it's not a fluke.

Even Northwestern @ Purdue: Purdue's last serious chance for a win?

UCLA @ Nebraska is probably the least interesting for a classic Big Ten tilt, but UCLA may not be as bad as it has looked; they started with a very tough schedule. Nebraska has not. But it's still a long trip for the Bruins, right on the heels of an even longer trip.

Seriously, every one of these games has a pretty good story line.

Wisconsin/Iowa a very underrated game. Everyone falls in love with quarterbacks, receivers and running backs. I think some of us old school, midwest folks still love the epic battles in the trenches. This game has a great amount of that.

I wish it wasn't at night. Kinnick is tough enough to get a road win, during the day.

Agreed.  I noticed on my chart that I made for Power Rankings that there are a LOT of games this week between reasonably evenly matched teams.  There also seem to be a greater than average number of games where the presumably better team is on the road and that tends to lead to upsets so it could be a wild weekend.

Maybe a night game will make the visitor locker room less visible? Still can't believe they get away with this considering how nice the home locker room is now lol.

Even Northwestern @ Purdue: Purdue's last serious chance for a win?
Battle to be best of the worst!

I mean, Purdue is roundly 18th in our weekly power rankings. Northwestern ranges between about 14th and 17th, but with multiple ranks at 17th, I'd say it's close enough.

Wonder if a Purdue win would cause people to push them up to 17th and Northwestern down to 18th...

Depends. If it's a close win, probably not, since PU is at home.

Yes- good week.   I was looking at the picks I want to make.

Seeing a lot of what I call coin flip games.  Also seeing a lot of games where my first instinct is the road team ( including the out of conference selections).  That gives me pause…..

I keep having great pick weeks, thinking I'll launch into first.. and then there's this guy that just keeps dominating.

this week is TOUGH.  I can see a lot of games going down to the wire.

Agreed. Interesting week. I think the less passionate about the game we have gotten with age, the better our picks have been lol.. Go figure
