Frosty Man v. Frosty Malt (Aug. 28 SOC)
« on: August 28, 2021, 02:50:11 AM »
Posting very early, because my cat woke me up. Gonna be a hot one today in Columbus and Champaign, getting above 90. Not exactly chili weather, though I do have some beans on the menu. My family hates beans, and I love them, and I used to bemoan that fact. But now I realize no one will try to eat my leftovers.

Schedule

1:20 pm, FOX, Nebraska at Illinois
2 pm, CBSSN, UCONN at Fresno St.
3:30, ESPN, Hawaii at UCLA
9:30, FloFootball, UTEP at New Mexico St
10 pm, CBSSN, Southern Utah at San Jose State

Good morning board. There's football today, I'm so happy.

I remember hating on that whiny fat Belima at Wisconsin, and then laughing at that cocky S.O.B. thinking he he could make Arkansas competitive in the SEC. So, I'm really hoping Frost can spoil his opener.

On the one hand, I know this is about chili. On the other, the idea of you being like “ ha, this woman in these children won’t eat my beans,” and you just crushing leftover beans it’s pretty hilarious.

Trust me, once you are surrounded by children, having a good meal ready on hand that they won't swipe is a priority.

I awoke around 5:25, not sure why, no cat.  Made coffee, the wife will rise around 9 and I'll take her coffee and then later we go to the market.

The weather here today should be pretty good, pred high 86°F and slight chance of rain.  We often get a brief shower around 5 PM.  When I'm at the pool not swimming, I can watch those cumulus clouds build up in real time, it's a sight.  I'll probably watch the Nebbie-Ill game at 1:20, it's CFB of course.  I know next to nothing about either team.  Do they have full attendance?  Or is that an issue?

I understand Game Day is here today.  I just discovered the field is now called Center Parc Stadium, what once was Olympic Stadium and then Turner Field.  They did a decent job I think reshaping the stands for football, but I bet they have far more capacity than they need.  This is the Georgia State home field.

Supposedly open at 100% attendance, though whether an Illinois game gets 100% attendance is another matter

Got up at 7 am and made the dough for cinnamon rolls and got the chicken wings ready to go into the crock pot and frying the burger to make some simple pizzas.  I will be sitting out here in my living room to watch the game and my husband will be hiding out in our room playing Skyrim / Fallout 4 and preparing for his long fall of not seeing me on Saturday game days, lol.  He states he is the "football widow" in our household and he's not wrong, ha ha.

Praying for our team's success on the field - and while I would love to see NE win, I mainly want to see improvement - especially on special teams and please God, hang onto the dang ball!  If we don't shoot ourselves in the foot (again) we stand a pretty good chance of having a good season ending in a bowl game.  GBR!

Good luck to all BIG teams this year, except when playing Nebraska, of course!  Let's have a great season uninterrupted by COVID forfeits!

How they were able to convince taxpayers to replace that stadium already I do not understand

Different set of tax payers, Cobb County instead of Fulton/Atlanta.  So, they built "Truist" park in arguably the worst traffic center in the metro area with no MARTA.  To be fair, they have the second highest MLB attendance now behind the Dodgers who have a larger stadium, so I guess it's "working".  We have a bus that runs out that way, I need to try it sometime and see if it works.

There was some mumbling about having south Cobb join MARTA if that would result in rapid rail running out to Cumberland.  The DOT built at nearly a billion dollars express lanes adjacent to I-75 out there featuring the longest bridge in the state, over a mile long.  It's impressive to see, for me anyway, but strikes me as a weird way to spend money, but they are not allowed to spend on mass transit.

You need a Peach Pass to use the lanes.

It doesn't feel real yet. After 2020, nothing does. Hopefully some normalcy sets in, and that this is the catalyst.

Got some chicken brining right now, in prep to hit the deep fryer later on. Probably do some gravy, mashers, corn on the cob and green beans. Kind of a Midwest comfort meal, now that I think about it.

As for today's game... I know very little but I **think** Bert is gonna send Frost to the hottest seat he's been on yet.

He's a good coach, coming off "rehab" with some really good NFL coaches.

Man, the traffic situation there is so hopeless. The outerbelt has like six lanes each way, and it is still completely gridlocked at all times.

How would you even fix that? Ten lanes each way?

Thankfully, my wife is into it. Normally we go boating on Saturdays, but that's at a halt now, until after Thanksgiving. :)

The proposed "solution" is more parallel toll express lanes at a cost of a bazillion dollars and immense construction headaches, and do the same up GA 400.
