NBA viewership has tanked, as I understand it.
Viewership follows players.  It still does better national numbers than MLB or NHL, but why national networks are bidding on contracts to show a Pistons-Cavaliers ECSF series is more about how we consume tv than anything.  Numbers are down, but at least SOME people are watching it live, as opposed to anything else.  But I see my kids, they don't have "their" team.  They'll watch an NBA game if it's LeBron vs. Wembanyama or something, but they have no rooting interest.  My oldest LOVES baseball, but he consumes it very differently from how I did.

OTOH, while I'm not a soccer fan, I just think it would be cool if the USA excelled at something we historically haven't been very good at.  It'd still be a point of national pride for me even while not being a fan of the sport.
It would be fun to win it just to poke fun at some of these other countries.

Kind of like winning both hockey gold medals.  We were not the best team, but we had the better day, and Canada was devastated

Yeah that was fun.  They got so salty.

If they'd just become our 51st state then they too could have shared in those gold medals.

I'm guessing everyone here would also pick a national championship over their favorite NFL team winning the Super Bowl.  So I guess people are also apathetic about the NFL by that standard
I dunno tOSU has at least appeared at the Big Dance and got 3 Rings since 2000. The Browns.......... Just once before I di......nevermind

I'm pretty sure I saw the Bears win a Superbowl. Memory fades though.

Anytime I think I saw the Saints win a Superbowl, I'm convinced I hallucinated the whole thing.

I've seen the Cowboys win a few.  But it's been a long, long while.

Texicans would have none of that - then they'd be 3rd behind Alaska and the Great White North and scampering about like startled hens with a jaundiced of the American Dream.

The ratings for Mexico-England played in Mexico City on Sunday were revealed on Wednesday. Per Fox Sports, England's dramatic 3-2 win drew 21,742,000 viewers on its network. Combined with 23.1 million U.S. viewers on Telemundo, that adds up to roughly 44.8 million viewers.

Goes back to what I said about the nationality of the person in the US being a major driving factor in the viewership

I wonder how real that is.
