Well, a $30 K EV might be fine for the customer, but what sort of profit would Ford be able to make off that?  In Europe, where gasoline is $7-8 per gallon, and electricity is not that much higher, it starts to make sense, I suspect, I don't know what their typical away from home charging costs are.  I keep going over the math with gas around here at $3 per and it's not good at all.  I'd love to hear from the folks who live in this building about their experience with the two downstairs chargers.
can't speak for others but in SoFL the three main public charging stations are Tesla Supercharger, FPL Evolution, and ElectrifyAmerica.

Tesla just recently opened up to other EV manufacturers and their rates are 22 cents/kwh on off-peak hours and 38 cents/kwh on-peak hours for Tesla owners & Supercharger network members. 31 cents/kwh off-peak and .53 cents/kwh peak hours for non-members. Max charging speeds are 250kW.

FPL Evolution is a standard .30 cents/kwh across the board- no membership required- that's the rate whenever wherever- and their max charging speeds are 350kW- but most stations are 180kW or 240kW- have yet to see one that's 350kW.

Electrify America has the most ridiculous prices at .64 cents/kwh for non-members and .42/kwh for members that pay $8/month- but they have the fastest charging speeds- basically everyone I've ever been to is 350kW- but they also have the shittiest service as their stations are basically always broken. If they have a station with 10 chargers- you can bet your ass at least 4 of them don't work.

I think it can be summed up more succinctly as people aren’t willing to spend north of $75,000 on a fucking Ford vehicle. Period.

You're moving the goalposts.  This is what you said.  It's demonstrably false.

I've noted repeatedly the issue for apt/condo dwellers who cannot charge on their own nickel.  I'd have two options, charging downstairs at leisure but paying something over 40 cents per kWhr, or driving to Kroger or Atlantic Center and charging over time perhaps somewhat cheaper, maybe.  (The latter has a large bank of Tesla chargers.)

Neither is appealing to me.  Presume I could buy an EV basically like our Tucson with 300 mile range, fine, but paying 40 cents per kWhr negates any advantage, and then some.  Having to drive to "Kroger", and wait an hour, is a nonstarter as well.  I know more stations are coming, but they all will cost somewhere between $0.25 and $0.50, and require me to go somewhere and wait.  The four stations at our Kroger are often occupied, so I'd wait for one to open, I see that fairly often.

Even if the EV cost LESS, I wouldn't go for it, in my situation.  This is all fine if you own your own home, but for the rest of us ...  it's unappealing.

yeah, it really only makes sense if you have charger in your sf home garage or town home garage. my building has only 2 lvl 2 chargers for hundreds of people- it's free to use but they are always used so what's the point? and tons of people down here have Tesla's- not sure about where you guys are but down here Tesla is easily one of the most popular cars on the road- see them fkn everywhere all day long. barely see Ford/GM cars- whereas up north in MI that is basically all you see. it's all either cheap asian cars, Tesla's, or high end expensive foreign cars here with very little American (outside of Tesla) auto manufacturers.

FPL has a pretty cool LVL2 home charging program for sf homes & townhomes w/garages where it's $31 or $38/mo with no upfront cost depending on if they run the electricity or you do- and it's completely free unlimited charging for your EV's if you charge them on off-peak hours, weekends, and holidays- now that makes a lot of sense to get an EV.

Lots of Teslas here, and various other EVs.  Austin is a very liberal and eco-conscious town.

But it's still Texas, so gazillions of Ford, GM, and Ram pickups.

Not a lot of EV's on this side of Florida. The charging stations always have room.

Tesla cars are [obv] very common here too... Lots of Rivian here as well. Not sure if that's at all related to them being HQ'd in Irvine.

Being California, I see just about every other EV regularly too.

The ones here look like this.

On rare occasion, you might see some toolbox with California plates pulled up to one of them.

I see EVs here fairly often, not nearly like in CA of course.  The Waymo's are EVs.  Some new buses are EVs.  Some delivery vehicles are as well.

I might be "interested" in an EV that had a smallish gasoline motor dedicated to recharging the battery when needed.  That would simplify the drivetrain, I think, but I doubt I personally would recharge it often.
