I figure anyone buying a car that costs over $100 K isn't all that interested in practicality.  They are about image, mostly.  This is why I don't think there is much market for the Celestique.  It's unusual, sure, but still a Cadillac, and one could buy a Rolls something, with a lot more cache.  I suppose at the "club" maybe everyone has a roller and you want to be different ...

As usual, the "value" component in a car's price drops way off as the price goes higher.  One can buy a perfectly decent comfortable car under $40 K.  Go to $60 K, I get it, you get a nice mark and more features and probably better performance to some degree.

Ford should bring back the Excursion.

On a 1-ton pickup chassis.

3/4 ton would be good for you with the 6.7 litre powerstroke diesel

I'm interested in how EVs mostly look like ICE cars when in theory they might look unique, but I don't know if that would mean "better".  No engine means the front could be more sloped though that would limit "frunk" capacity.  The Tesla Y styling is close to this notion.  Maybe crash protection is also a factor.

Nobody has really done a clean sheet on design, yet.

IMHO the shape of a vehicle has more to do with accommodating passengers, cargo, and aerodynamics than it has to do with the powertrain.

You mention the frunk, and obviously cargo space is important, but I don't think it's clear that a more "sloped" front would be an aerodynamic improvement, much less enough of one that it would offset the utility of a larger frunk. I'm by no means an aero expert, but I know that many of the aspects of aerodynamic design are counterintuitive. For example, driving a pickup truck with the tailgate open is actually worse for aero / mileage than driving with it closed.

For example, here are purportedly the 12 EVs with the lowest Cd available in the UK. None have an aggressively sloped front.

I think the sloped front might be good for creating downforce, which is why sports cars like FF's 'Vette look the way they do. But... Downforce = drag.

3/4 ton would be adequate.  1 ton would be dominant.

Aero is complex, no doubt, I know that how the tail is shaped has a lot to do with Cd, and a lot of that is not intuitive.  But a blocky square front end isn't as aero as one that is sloped.

Yeah, as mentioned I don't profess to be an expert on this, or even a confident layman.

It just seems to me that the most slippery cars on the market do NOT have a front end with the amount of slope that I think you're talking about. Given how aggressively these automakers--particularly EV makers--are trying to reduce Cd, it makes me think that they're already optimizing the shape as much as they can.

This isn't the 1960s when a lot of this was theoretical and done by engineers with pencil and paper. They can model and iterate different design/shape choices extensively on a computer long before they ever have to prototype something. As with a lot of things, it's possible that there are design tradeoffs of a more aggressively sloped front end that they're forgoing better aero because the tradeoff they'd have to make for a change in shape has other drawbacks. But it's also possible that what we--as a chemist and an electrical engineer out of our depth--would intuitively think is best for Cd... isn't.

3/4 ton or 1 ton SRW, the only difference is the shocks/springs and how stiff it rides unloaded.  I own em all.  F250's, F350's, 450's, chevy 3500 SRW, Ram 2500, F550's and F600.

Driven: 2025 Chevrolet Blazer EV SS Is Sensibly Swift

Whether you approve of it or not, the Blazer EV SS adheres to Super Sport tradition, offering a meaningful go-fast enhancement at a reasonable price. Starting at $62,095, this 615-hp all-wheel-drive model costs just $5005 more than the next most powerful Blazer EV trim, the 365-hp rear-drive RS. That's no pocket change, but it is currently the cheapest way to corral 600 ponies in a new car. Among its peers, the Blazer SS sits between the 480-hp Ford Mustang Mach-E GT ($54,490) and the 641-hp Hyundai Ioniq 5 N ($67,675), bringing similar if not more passenger space than both. Its larger 102-kWh battery also makes for a solid 303 miles of EPA range—23 to 38 miles more than you get from the most powerful Mach-E models and 82 more than the Hyundai.

Do not like that Blazer.

But obviously I'm not their target buyer, because I don't like ANY of those little station wagon/SUV/crossover looking things.
