Does NFL success have any bearing here?
All I know is if Stabauch is your QB, your team will lose.

I didn't get into CFB until my sophomore year of college (1997), and since then although I had a couple years I could follow the national scene, generally barely get a chance to pay attention to anything even in the B1G outside of Purdue as of late.

So I don't think I have the historical perspective to participate.
it's OK, someone has to finish last ;)

The more I think about this, the more intriguing the players/positions chosen in the first round is.

Maybe you could throw out who you'd draft so we can see what you might do.  It's unlikely any of us would draft the same players, at least initially, I think.

Yeah, that's my thought.  The pool is so wide.

Well if you've ever drafted a fantasy team before, you know how it goes.   You have some kind of plan, you have some players in mind.  But both the guy you want your next pick gets taken by someone else and then the backup guy you planned to pick if that happened gets picked the choice before its your turn, and you're like UHHH, UMMM and trying not to panic.
It's hard not to fall in love with a player you want, especially when a lot of your team is set and he fits what you need.
.
So here's an example:

CFB51 ALL-TIME COLLEGE FOOTBALL FANTASY DRAFT
Round 1:
1. rolltidefan - LB Derrick Thomas, Alabama
2. cincydawg - RB Herschel Walker, Georgia
3. ELA - DE Bubba Smith, MSU
4. Fearless - DT Ndomukong Suh, Nebraska
5. OAM - CB Deion Sanders, FSU
6. 847Badge - OT Joe Thomas, Wisconsin
7. bwarb - QB Vince Young, Texas
8. Marq - QB Tommie Frazier, Nebraska
9. utee - LB Tommy Nobis, Texas
10. drew4UTk - QB Peyton Manning, Tennessee
Round 2:
11. drew4UTk - DE Reggie White, Tennessee
12. utee - RB Tony Dorsett, Pitt
13. Marq - CB Charles Woodson, Michigan
14. bwarb - OT Orlando Pace, Ohio St
15. 847Badge - DT Lee Roy Selmon, Oklahoma
16. OAM - QB Tim Teobw, Florida
17. Fearless - RB Mike Rozier, Nebraska
18. ELA - WR Randy Moss, Marshall
19. cincydawg - S Ed Reed, Miami
20. rolltidefan - G John Hannah, Alabama
Round 3:
21. rolltidefan - RB Bo Jackson, Auburn
22. cincydawg - TE Keith Jackson, Oklahoma
23. ELA - RB Barry Sanders, Oklahoma St
24. Fearless - C Dave Rimington, Nebraska
25. OAM - DE Hugh Green, Pitt
26. 847Badge - RB Archie Griffin, Ohio St
27. bwarb - CB Rod Woodson, Purdue
28. Marq - G Will Shields, Nebraska
29. utee - DE Terrell Suggs, Arizona St
30. drew4UTk - T Johnathan Ogden, UCLA
......and so on.

So for me, I've got a CB, QB, and DE.  So I'd be looking O-line for my next pick or a RB if one seems like a good get.  Fearless is going the homer route, but it's okay, because it's Nebraska.  But it will be interesting if/when he strays from the Huskers.
bwarb knows he can't do the homer thing much, but he can occasionally grab a Boilermaker here and there (Woodson, Brees eventually, etc).
I assume cincy would pick a lot more pre-WWII guys than I've given him here, which would be fun to see.
.
Since we're so familiar with each other, it would be fun.

We could even give special conditions to each other.  Fearless can only draft Huskers, I can only draft state-of-FL guys, cincy has to take pre-WWII guys exclusively, etc.  That would be fun, too.

Every 5 rounds or so, I'd post a team-by-team update like this:
ELA
DE - Bubba Smith, Michigan St
WR - Randy Moss, Marshall
RB - Barry Sanders, Oklahoma St
T - Tony Mandarich, Michigan St
S - Eric Berry, Tennessee
.
ELA himself would keep track that he needs another WR, wants to take a LB soon, etc.
.
It would also be interesting when someone took the first kicker or punter, who takes a returner first, who fills out their entire OL, etc.  All kinds of side stories.

Yeah, he was a really good scrambler.  Like Stabauch.  Yeesh.

That would be a sound choice indeed I think.  I'd trade down for a lower pick myself, and I'd note that Charlie Trippi was POST WW II (1946, his last season).
Sheesh.

I might take Orlando Pace.
