obviously things have changed drastically since 2009 and 2010, but in Pelini's last 2 seasons in the Big 12 ......

2009 defensive ranks
rushing #9
pass efficiency #9
total defense #7
scoring defense #1

2010 defensive ranks
rushing #63
pass efficiency #3
total defense #11
scoring defense #9

YOU are a top HS athlete at your position and have offers from nearly every major program out there.  Where would you go, presuming you have zero allegiance to any program due to location or heritage.

I object. Your premise in Sentence 1 assumes facts not in evidence.

True.  I wonder who was the best athlete among our group here.  At one time, I think we had some guys who played Div II or something.

I might have been able to play bball at that level back in the day had I not hurt my ankle as a senior, but back then, Div 2 bball was like glorified HS.  I figure it was a good think I did blow out the ankle because it meant I didn't make college decisions based on athletics.  Instead, I went where the most pretty girls were.

hah, I'm a terrible athlete.  Always have been.  That's why I enjoy golf.

I went to college where they had the best football program within driving distance of home

I was pretty good in HS at both bballs.  I was supposed to be the ace in my junior year in baseball, but the first game I tried to gun everything and I wasn't ready and the shoulder fell apart.  It's in bad shape today, I'm thinking about surgery but am trying PT.  I can feel stuff grinding inside the joint with certain movements.

One of those movements is throwing a baseball though I discovered an arm angle at camp that doesn't hurt, it's above sidearm and well below 3/4ers.  It's a strange arm angle I never used which is probably why it's there.  I was coMVP in basketball despite missing almost half the season.  The other MVP started all four years in college Div 1.  He was really good.

i had "offers" to play cfb at some small local schools. one was dii (got fb scholly offer for long snapping), one diii (got academic offer and invited to play fb at cb/s). i didn't go to either.

pretty sure there's some that played on here though. can't remember who.

I was never an amazing athlete, and I think some of it was a lack of applying myself. I did make 2nd degree black belt during my high school years, and I enjoyed playing volleyball. I had enough of a vertical that I could just barely dunk a volleyball, since my hand was big enough to palm it one-handed, but couldn't do a basketball because I couldn't jump high enough "two-handed".

But I've always said if I'd actually applied myself in football, I have the right frame to play line. Leaving high school I was 6'5" and 225#, without doing ANY weight training, and that was all lean muscle because of the amount of time I was spending doing martial arts. Even now I'm running about 265# without looking "fat", although my body fat percentage is well above where I'd actually like it.

If I had been applying myself in the weight room, I easily could have carried 300# of muscle, and that in itself might have gotten me a look or two at small schools.
