I'm trying to use AI sites/apps to produce a bunch of images, but get stuck with daily limits using the free versions.

I know I'm wanting something for free, but this kind of stuff should be something we can all access.  Perhaps it's too early-on, but this industry should be accessible to all, like the power grid or phone connections, etc.
I know you pay for those, but much differently.  Hell, set it up so our tax dollars pay for it.  It's going to be necessary in 5-6 years anyway, right?  Let's make it a public work instead of greedy corporations raking it in.

And some of those big AI outfits have already gotten bailouts, so let's not pretend all the tons of money they've spent is some sort of noble cause.  Their recent IPO valuations are insane, but SHHHHH about that.  Just get out before they fall off a cliff.

What's an example of a recent AI IPO?  Check that, looked it up:

Anthropic is one.  I don't follow these.

Anthropic and OpenAI have not yet IPO'd.

SpaceX is "sort of" an AI IPO, but it's also a space IPO and a social media IPO...

Just out of curiosity, what are you using these images for?

The difference between the free models and the models available at a $20/month subscription are night and day.

I "vibe coded" my first app a couple weeks ago. A scorekeeping app for a golf game we play during Men's league, called Long / Short. It took less than 2 hours to get it working and roughly another 3 to add all the nuance and nice-to-haves. Being a semi-competent coder, I would guesstimate a month of pounding my head into the wall to get it built on my own.

ETA: I used Claude Opus 4.8 (chat, not code)

I don't understand you at all.  First off, none of the things you mentioned are "free".  Neither the power grid nor the telephone system was ever free.  About the only thing the gov't provided was something about common carrier, basically saying you didn't have to pay for the poles in front of your house, they basically held a gun to the utility co's head to make them run power and telephone out to less populated places.  But you still had to pay something to get service.

And as far as using our tax dollars, what part of $37 Trillion and growing in debt should we use for that?  No thanks.

I think I subscribe to two of the AI services.  $20 bucks per month, it's immensely useful.  I bet you have access through the school district like I do at work.
As far as the greedy corporations go, I heard they are losing big money implementing this stuff.

One more thing...Try Grok.  I've had great luck creating images on there, for free.

Just out of curiosity, what are you using these images for?

I'm working on a new card game, like a MTG college football game.  Just want some original, probably animation-style pictures for it.

Ignore the words at the bottom.  This is a really great AI image with a simple prompt.  But I could only do a few for free.
I don't have it all worked out yet, but you'd have to pick a run or pass, then execute it with blocking, then the play call, then the outcome as the other player (on defense) takes on the blocks, reacts to the play call, and chooses the positions that would make the play.
Thinking of it being an effort to string together some first downs (or unable to) to gain TDs or FGs or punting.
I know it's a tiny niche - nerdy card trading gamers + sports fans, but I don't care.  It's fun to toil on this stuff.

Ok. So you're trying to start another business. A business where you will sell these cards for something other than "free".

You don't have the capability to draw the cards yourself. So you're outsourcing.

In a previous world, you would have to probably hire a graphic designer or illustrator. Someone who would charge you for your work. Charge you a LOT... I think someone here has a relative[/daughter?] who is a graphic designer doing quite well for herself. This would probably make your entire business idea infeasible because you couldn't possibly make money after paying a graphic designer.

In the AI world, however, you can get that service for REALLY cheap in comparison. It actually makes your business possible.

And yet, you chafe at the fact that while a company is giving you your critical business inputs for free, they're not giving you ENOUGH of them for free? And you expect the government--i.e. the tax dollars paid in from everyone else on this forum--to step in and subsidize your business, so you can get your critical business inputs for free?

Why do you expect that your business should be handed AI-produced graphics for free, while you will be able to then sell the cards bearing those AI-produced graphics for cash?

As a small business owner, I can't even begin to explain how many contractor / freelance gaps AI closes for us.

A few years ago, my wife I decided we would remain a two person business, hiring only on a project basis. Extremely variable results hiring freelancers, and AI replaces ~90% of that need.

We currently pay $20 for ChatGPT, $20 for Claude (soon to be upgrading to $100 plan), and Gemini Pro comes with our Google workspace account. So roughly $150/month replacing $1000-2500/month in outside work. It's an absolute no-brainer, and I will never complain about the cost; it's dirt cheap.

lol, all of that is centered on a false premise.  I'm not trying to start another business.  I'm just seeing if I can do it, for fun.
You make good points, but I'm just frustrated because I want all the images and don't want to pay for my leisure activity.  I just deem AI stuff like this inevitably universal in the coming years and don't think I am where they'll be making their money.  Corporations with infinite pockets and high-leverage, big ideas will gladly pay AI producers all the money they want for the utility to make a lot more money while spending a lot less (on employees and shit).

I'm an ant.  A whiney ant.  I've just taken a recent interest in these trading card games and how they work.  For a football game, instead of a back-and-forth battle, turn-by-turn, you'd need one player to attempt to put a drive together, using a variety of plays and card types to gain 'enough' first downs for a score of either kind.
But combatting that on defense would be fun, too.  These TCG decks tend to have around 60 cards.  I started with 10 off/10 def all-time greats from various schools, but have since expanded it to 12 on each side of the ball, to better mimic the vast variety of these game types.

The OG one, Magic the Gathering, doesn't interest me, because when there's magic involved in something, like movies, etc, I check out because anything can happen.  Boring.  Like in the Mission: Impossible movies, where they can wear a perfect mask of anyone else, I checked out, because you couldn't trust anyone was who they were anymore.
But there are so many different themes with these TCG games, that maybe football would be a fun one.  It's right in our wheelhouse, right?
You play a blitzing LB card, but I counter that with a RB's "pick up the blitz" card, and so on.

If a frivolous "can I do this?" leisure activity costs too much, then the answer becomes 'no.'  I haven't shared it with anyone and I've only shared the idea here because you asked.  I was content just whining, lol.
I've talked to a friend from work, because I know he's into these card games.  Whoa Nellie wasn't meant to be a business, I just shared it openly on FB and people started asking me where I bought it.  Only then did I consider making it something to sell.

I could literally chalk up any unethical (not illegal) money-making scheme to unfettered capitalism and be right.

Yes.. Companies are literally spending $600-700B investing in the hardware that makes AI possible this year, hoping for an ROI.

And you're whining that you want it free and unlimited.
