I was musing, if UGA wins say, they'd likely finish 3-4-5 in the rankings, which I suppose is a something, if they lost, they'd likely be 8-9-10.  They might lose because half the team opted out, or half the team didn't care, or the coach played the scrubs.

It's all a bit weird to me, now.

I used to think a top 5 finish was a bit of a thing.  "Hey, we finished in the top 5 3 years running!".  Yeah, great, here's a cookie.

Yup, winning 2 national championships in a row will do that to ya.  "Just" finishing in the top 5 is a big disappointment now.   Meanwhile,  the rest of us all wish we had your problems.

I wish they had waited for Army/Navy. One of those teams will meet the true criteria as both are 5-6 now.
It's the Academies' fault for pushing their game so far back.  They used to play it on rivalry weekend, and for a while played it on CCG weekend.

They felt it was too important to be lost in the wash so they pushed it out yet another week, beyond the CCGs and bowl selection. That's entirely on them.

In reality of course, it makes no difference in my life if my team wins whatever or loses every game.

I might feel a bit down after a loss for an hour.  Then life goes on.

I got a new iPhone for Christmas, already, I guess I'll see about transferring files etc.

Yeah, I like it having its own slot, but then you have to be ok with this, which I kind of thought they were.

I remember being excited about top 5 final rankings.  And really, for good reason, as it meant we'd have a good year and probably won a pretty good bowl.

With the playoffs, it's less likely to have a top 5 finish if you aren't a playoff team.  Final rankings will be even harder to achieve for teams outside the playoffs going forward, although it will be easier to get in the playoffs.

All of our seniors and juniors headed to the draft always played our bowls, no matter what they were.  For decades our players played without worry of injury that would plummet their draft stock, and it worked out so often that I have to think the actual chances of hurting yourself by playing in a bowl is negligible.  I feel like not playing bowls is just a cool thing to do now, and emblematic of how the prevailing mentality now is "NC or we don't care," and has really nothing to do with "preserving yourself for the NFL."

You want Fearless to have to go to Detroit?
Fearless isn't going to Detroit.

But, Rhule and his team going to Detroit would make Rhule happy for the extra practice reps and game reps.

That IS part of it, but I feel similar about my team and Ohio State hasn't won a NC since 2014.

The Buckeyes are in a somewhat similar situation, #7 in yhe AP Poll with the six ahead of them all playing each other. If the Buckeyes beat Mizzo they'll likely be ranked 4th, 5th, or 6th behind M, Washington, the FSU/UGA winner, and TX/Bama if they win.

Ten years ago that would have been a huge deal to me. Now, I don't care. I'd rather see my team prep for 2024 and lose than see them play for 2023 and win. The playoff sucks the oxygen out of the room and we aren't in it so just get ready for next year.

Golf courses aren't open there
I've been there in the past
be an absolute shit show with all the bowl starved Husker fans buying up game tickets, airline tickets, hotel rooms and such

I would take my chances to wait until next season when they might be playing in Texas

I have always thought once they get to the 5-7 teams,  they should take the 5-7 team that has gone the longest time without a bowl.  That would be the team with the fans most excited to go to a bowl.  Minnesota went to a bowl last year and lost their last 4 games this year.  Is there any Minnesota fan excited to go to Detroit for a bowl this year?

On the other hand,  being an Iowa fan,  there is a part of me that likes that Nebraska has not gone to a bowl since 2016 and wants to see that streak keep going, and I want Iowa to be the team that keeps Nebraska out of a bowl each time.

But then again part of me wants Nebraska to make a bowl because that would make Fearless happy.
i am excited for the Minn bowl game also glad they are not playing on a freaking baseball field

i am glad that they tied the chance to grades because it is a meaningless game but rewards the Student athletes in a true spirit of college sports

How about  Flushing New York for the Tidy Bowl? Or are the 'Skers portaling to the MAC?
