Big Ten Power Rankings After Week 10
« on: November 05, 2023, 07:17:02 AM »
1.  Michigan
2.  Ohio St
3.  Penn St
4. Iowa
5.  Minn
6.  Neb
7.  Wisc
8.  Rutgers
9.  NW
10. ILL
11. MSU
12. IND
13.  Purdue
14.  MD

I think the key thing we found out Sat is that any team ranked from #4 to #14 is capable of  beating each other and all of them could easily be 3-3 right now.  Iowa just has That weird ability (luck?) to win many of its close games, even with no offense, which gives them the slight edge in the West.

The next big test is coming in the East,  with Mich playing at PSU on Nov.  11.

Yes- once you get to #4, you could just throw the names in a hat.
Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please.

Yes, we were so close to having a 5-way tie for first in the West with all 5 teams 3-3.  If only NW would have pulled it out against Iowa.  So close.

Did you watch the Purdue - Michigan game?  110 yards from 34 rushing attempts.  And 44 of those yards came on one play.

Agree with this. Outside of 1 or 2 plays, it was very very conservative play calling, especially the running game 2nd half. We’ll learn a lot in 1 week.

In a way,  the winner of this Saturdays Rutgers @Iowa game could be the clear #4 in the conference.

Iowa is 7-2 overall and Rutgers is 6-3.  Rutgers 3 losses are to OSU, Mich, Wisc.  Iowa's 2 losses are to PSU, Minn.

Minn, Wisc, Neb, MD all are 5-4 overall and any still could make a run at #4,  but last week did not instill any confidence in any of them.

  • Michigan - Did what they needed to do with Purdue. Now we get to see them play a team with a pulse this weekend.
  • Ohio State - Looked the offense was sleepwalking after the first touchdown until they 2nd half. And Rutgers is not the bottom feeder they used to be.
  • Penn State - It looks like they are hitting their stride now. They will need that this weekend.
  • Iowa - The game with NW was the lowest ever over/under (30.5) for a college game, and they managed to hit the under comfortably.
  • Rutgers - Ran the ball well against a good defense. Their defense is also playing well.
  • Wisconsin - At this point, I have no idea about any of the teams from here down. I'm just going to keep them were I had them last week.
  • Minnesota
  • Nebraska
  • Illinois
  • Maryland
  • Northwestern
  • Indiana
  • Purdue
  • Michigan State

Last week in parenthesis

  • OHIO STATE (1) - probably more interested in the game in Happy Valley than their own this week
  • MICHIGAN (2) - about to finally get tested
  • PENN STATE (3) - lose this, get James Franklin out of my face forever as the guy who can get PSU there
  • IOWA (4) - just in case you wondered whether Brian's offense would fight for him after his firing
  • RUTGERS (6) - failing to punch one in in the 3rd quarter killed them
  • WISCONSIN (5) - only on this day can you lose to the worst team in the conference and only drop one
  • ILLINOIS (12) - I mean, I guess, who knows?
  • MINNESOTA (7) - a chance to take control of the West, and you lose at home to Illinois' backup QB?
  • NEBRASKA (8) - so much for my faith there
  • NORTHWESTERN (9) - does Chicago still want them to be their team
  • MARYLAND (10) - falling hard and fast
  • MICHIGAN STATE (13) - thought maybe the team had given up, I was wrong
  • INDIANA (14) - showing some life here the past two weeks
  • PURDUE (11) - looking more and more like the Illinois win was the anamoly

on paper- Franklin should lose this game. Michigan is the more veteran, experienced, talented team. So if PSU were to lose, I don't think that would be any indication of him not being the guy who can get PSU there. There's already been plenty of indication of that being the case in the 10 years he's been there....
