WR Jenkins declares for draft and opts out of the bowl.  Normally wouldn't even be a question, because he's been at LSU 5 years, but he had a year of eligibility left d/t the covid year.

No.  He will still coach at Illinois through their bowl game.
Hagen (old DC) is going with Brohm to Louisville.

So, as far as I know, it is still Brian Brohm coaching the bowl game, but I can't imagine that there wont be a little bad blood there.
Frankly, as of this moment, I'll be surprised if Purdue keeps it within 2 touchdowns.

While Hagen is going to Louisville, he is staying behind to coach the bowl game.

And yes, Brian Brohm is the interim HC for the bowl.

So for Purdue, DB Cory Trice is out, WR Charlie Jones is out, G Spencer Holsteg has entered the portal and presumably out, C Gus Hartwig having surgery and is out.

QB Aidan O'Connell is undecided, but presumed in.  It's also rumored that he may be able to talk Charlie Jones into playing.

 WR Charlie Jones is out
???

Where did you see this?  Is that premium board info or something?
I haven't seen anything on the inter-webs that has made that declaration official.

Word is he wants to rest his injuries.  Nothing official yet though.

Coach Walters will not be with Illinois for their Bowl Game.  He will be with Purdue, monitoring practices, out recruiting, and assembling his staff.

His first move was a team meeting, giving RB Mockabee a scholarship.

Brian Brohm will call plays for the offense and be acting HC, with Mark Hagen calling plays for the defense.

Gotta agree with Grillrat, I'd be surprised if Purdue keeps this within 2 scores.

However, some interesting tidbits from inside the program...

Apparently there was mass attrition at hand.  Sources close to the players are saying half the team does not care at all that Jeff Brohm is gone.  Supposedly a bunch of players were going to jump in the portal had Brohm stayed on to coach in 2023.  Purdue is also expecting some academic casualties.

It was no secret Brohm was going to Louisville.  There's some smoke out there that had the UL job not opened up, Brohm was going to retire and wait on it.  Also some smoke that strings were pulled to make the job available.  I'm sure Satterfield knew and parleyed it into the Cincinnati job.

Looking back on the season, it makes sense.  Purdue should have never lost that Syracuse game (even though the officials were atrocious).  The Boilers had undisciplined penalties in a lot of games.  Purdue was completely out of focus vs. Iowa and Wisconsin.

I'm hearing the players like Brian Brohm.  He has also never really called games, even though he has the OC title, it was always Jeff calling plays (except vs Iowa in 2020 when Jeff had COVID, which was a win).

So maybe this team loosens up a bit and goes out with a bang.  I'm only an hour from the Citrus Bowl and still debating on going.

I think teams should view a bowl game as mostly a way to reward its players and get significant PT for next year's starters.  Maybe the few remaining major bowls are worth a real effort to win (or not), but think of it as a preseason game for next year ....

Winning is less important.

I don't think anyone has ever suggested that a team doesn't want to win once the coin is flipped.

I do believe there are disparities in the way coaches and players approach the preparation for bowl games, compared to regular season games.
