If it was a supply of Tito's or Live Oak I'd do precisely that

Back in the day when the Braves were really bad and on WTBS every night, I was a big fan, it was my evenings on many occasions.  It was low stress, if they won it was a surprise and if they lost, oh well, I didn't expect anything else.

Then they got pretty good, then mediocre, now back to pretty good.  I got frustrated last night after the 8th inning with all the LOBs and turned it off, one inning to go, Cards' closer coming in, put a fork in it.

The wife turned the TV back on 35 minutes later and as I had not changed the channel there they were with a lead.  She said "I though you told me the Braves lost.".

The fickle finger of fandom.

Speaking of which, where does Luke Fickell end up coaching?  I doubt OSU fires Day.

Ah man, you're welcome to the Tito's and Live Oak.  There's plenty to go around.  I don't even pay for it! ;)

I once bet a buddy he could not tell the difference between four vodkas.  He nailed every one of them blind.

So, somewhat amazed, I tasted them too and could tell they were different.  I liked Grey Goose the best of the four, it was cleaner, better distillation.

Yeah, vodkas are obviously designed to be flavor neutral, but you'll still get various characteristics like the mineral content of the water, etc. that make it through the distilling process.

You could probably trick your friend by running something super-cheap, like Popov, through a charcoal filter a couple of times.  It changes the flavor and makes it taste "cleaner" without all that extra distillation.

Distillation is expensive, especially if you do it 2-3 times.  And taking a narrow cut is expensive.  I presume cheaper vodkas take a broader cut and include more cogerners and perhaps only distill once.

Wine often is made better by "dropping fruit", cutting off the extra bunches that grown on a vine.  Other ways of removing water are useful and cut yield also.

It's a case where better quality means lower quality, and higher prices.

Yup.  Tito's is distilled 6 times.  One time I was touring their manufacturing facility and Tito pulled a hose out of a large collector, told me "This is the 6th and final distillation" and we drank the warm vodka right out of the hose.  I've never been a big vodka guy* but that sample tasted absolutely delicious.

*at least not traditional vodka.  When juniper berries are used as a botanical, well then, I tend to love the stuff :)

Yeah, I have a weakness for that gin version as well.  It was created to be healthy.

I tried these expensive tonics and don't find them to be any better.  The Aviation gin was so so, but I also bought some Tanqueray Ten.  I make martinis with it, sans the vermouth.

Six distillations is a lot.

I once had some freshly squeezed grape juice out of the tank before fermentation, it was really really good, but they said if I had too much of it I'd get the runs.

6 is definitely a lot.  When asked why he distills 6 times, Tito responds, "because 5 isn't enough and you can't tell the difference after 6."   It's science! :)
