A Frosty Day To Row The Boat (SOC 10-16-21)
« on: October 16, 2021, 06:52:00 AM »
Well, certainly frostier up here. Finally, after an unseasonably warm week, it feels brisk. I'm sitting on my porch in a sweatshirt because it's 54 degrees, and the high is supposed to be 59 degrees. Man I've missed it. Not sure what I'm cooking today - I cooked a bunch yesterday - chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and gravy along with brussel sprouts and sourdough.

The wife also wanted a fall cocktail, so I went to work on that. Found something called apple elixir on the internets, but basically reduced apple cider with cinnamon, allspice, and bl;ack pepper into a syrup. Then  1 part syrup, 2 parts apple brandy, 4 parts hard cider, plus a squeeze of lemon juice. Quite apple-y.

Yum.  How do you “chicken fry a steak”.   I had it at a restaurant and really liked it.

Buy some cube steaks, self rising flour, eggs, and buttermilk. Mix a couple eggs into 2 or 3 cups of buttermilk. Dry off steaks, then dredge in flour, then in buttermilk, then in flour. Let rest, then fry, and season with salt and pepper when they come out. After your done, pour off the grease, then pour back in about a quarter cup. Whisk in 3 tablespoons of flour. Then pour in 3 or 4 cups of milk and cook - season with salt and pepper or seasoned salt if you're feeling frisky. There's your gravy.

a lot of boring match ups on paper, which usually means that there will be an inordinate amount of upsets.

34 degrees outside, 63 degrees inside

haven't fired up the furnace yet this fall

high of 67 this afternoon so the house will warm up

Chicken fried steak sounds REALLY good this morning - Damn

with the chill, I'm putting a 4 & a half pound pork shoulder blade boston butt roast in the crockpot with some garlic, onion, taters and peppers.

will be ready after the Husker game and then a round of golf.

not many rounds of golf remaining this season - not many Husker games either

My oldest daughter is going to her friend's quinceanera today. Are there expectations there? Can she just bring a card with a gift card or something? Not something I know anything about.

The matchups looked pretty fun to me. I think this means I like CFB too much.

According to WIKI
A quinceañera (also fiesta de quinceañera, quince años, fiesta de quince años and quinces) is a celebration of a girl's 15th birthday. It has its cultural roots in Mexico and is widely celebrated by girls throughout Latin America. The girl celebrating her 15th birthday is a quinceañera (Spanish pronunciation: [kinseaˈɲeɾa]; feminine form of "15-year-old"). In Spanish, and in Latin countries, the term quinceañera is reserved solely for the honoree; in English, primarily in the United States, the term is used to refer to the celebrations and honors surrounding the occasion.

Get her a gift card can't go wrong there.Like weddings they shouldn't be celebrated during football season no matter how cute they are
